We have our best couple friend over often, I throw dinner parties a few times a year... bbQs during the summer, dinners for special occasions... we also host Thanksgiving every year, and have our parents over for dinner a lot.

We have people over all the time! I really like to stay home, but I also like to be social so it's the perfect combination for me :)

It is a lot of work, but I've got it down so good now that I could prepare for people over with my eyes closed and both hands tied behind my back!

We have people over for board game nights pretty frequently. It's always a really casual thing though so there isn't really much prep beyond a little tidying up and making sure there are drinks in the fridge.

We love to have people over. Whether it's one other couple or a group - it's always a good time! I agree too, I'd rather go someone's house rather than 'out'.

My parents always threw dinner parties almost every week when we were growing up. I think that turned me off. I don't mind hosting a couple or a few friends, but a full out party, probably not.

We just had our housewarming/holiday party (after living at the house for 10 months!) and it was hard! It's a lot of prep work, especially with baby, but the payoff is seeing all your friends at once. We have a lot less time to socialize these days, so having everyone come to us was a lot of fun!

We love having people over, especially now that we have a kid-- lots of our close friends are childless so it's so much easier to get them to come over than to find a sitter and get out of the house. We love having barbecues and we do a lot of potlucks as well. We always have paper plates, cups, and plastic utensils on hand in bulk quantities. People always give us platters and serving things as gifts, saying "since you guys are always hosting parties"... that made me realize we have people over a lot!

We are HUGE board game people, and in order to play a board game you have to have a group of people, so we sometimes lure people in just to get them to play board games with us. Ha.

I like hosting stuff, but we are the only married couple in our local social groups (aside from one guy whose wife avoids anything with children - she's not anti-kids, but her son died last year. So, for social purposes, he's pretty much single.) Plus, my local friends include a woman who won't eat dinner unless it includes meat and a vegan, and we aren't close enough for me to invite the meat-eater and not a vegan/vice versa. We have one bachelorette friend who is apt to randomly back out on things (it's not personal - she does it to EVERYONE) so planned events are not really an option, and she's a vegan so it's hard to spontaneously throw together a tasty and filling meal. I really want to put together an RPG group from our friends. We're in a military town, and hubby is job-hunting... so we're just in a tough spot socially.

@ecogirl: I needed a black tie dress recently and found a non-maternity one at Lord & Taylor in the city that I had altered to fit my bump. It wasn't a perfect solution, but I waited till close to the event date to get a dress as I was unsure what my bump would look like at the time, and I didn't want to spend more than a couple hundred $ on a dress I may only wear once.

We try to, but don't have company too often. We love entertaining but are both so busy!
That being said, in January another friend and I are hosting a fancy dinner for a few friends, ladies only. We are going to use my collection of vintage china and a few pieces of crystal that were a recent gift. If we do, it'll be a ton of fun. :)

I'd love to find a group of friends to do this with. I love hostessing. My parents always hosted dinner parties when I was growing up- usually through groups organized through our church to rotate through different people's homes.

We love hosting parties! We sometimes will have a small dinner party with just ten people to cook for or I will throw a huge soiree and have it catered! I am hugely pregnant but we are now hosting a big ball at our home for NYE! Black tie and the whole nine yards! I have no idea where to shop for a great big pregnant ball gown haha :)

We just hosted Christmas dinner, next up is baby's christening lunch, and a reunion/playdate with old coworkers and their kids. I think we've been hosting more now that we have kids, actually. I do love that people come over to us. This past weekend we also had overnight visitors. Our place feels empty when everyone leaves though... hate that!

We've had two major dinner parties at our house in the past week. First we had my sister, her boyfriend, my dad's cousin, and his girlfriend over for a Hanukkah dinner last week. We made latkes and a roasted chicken. Then yesterday we had some of my friends from work over for a dungeness crab feast for Boxing Day. DH and I love cooking, and we love sharing food with friends.

My parents rarely hosted dinner parties when I was growing up, and hosting really stresses out my mom. It's a little stressful for me b/c we have to clean before and after, but overall I really enjoy hosting.

We host gatherings all the time. We don't have kids yet, so I'm sure that may change. However, hosting parties is a huge passion of mine and I've planning my own parties for as long as I can remember. So I plan to keep doing it for as long as I can.

I wish we could plan parties but since we never know what my husband's schedule would be we can't plan anything more than a few hours ahead of time and even then he might end up working. We tend to have spur of the moment gatherings where I end up cooking a big meal of whatever we have on hand or we all meet somewhere. It doesnt help that we live 45 minutes away from all of our friends.

My husband and I entertain regularly. We do everything from formal sit-down dinner parties, to casual afternoon cocktail parties, to events (i.e. super bowl party, new years eve party). We are also the only ones out of our group of friends and acquaintances that have enough space to entertain,. I'm sure that our level of entertaining will decrease some once little one arrives in a few weeks, but I'm hopeful that we can get back into the swing of hosting within a few months after he is born.

Glad we aren't the only ones who really don't- I've always wondered if we were anti-social.

My family never had anyone over when I was growing up, but we also had a double-wide trailer without any space.

We are planning to have a get together when the boy is a month or two old since we never had a local shower. I'm definitely a little nervous about putting it together for the first time at such a crazy time! But I think it will just be a pizza and beer type party ;)

We don't do it a lot. I'd like to, but it's just a lot of work and I don't have the time right now. We actually discussed it and my husband is happy with ordering in a pizza, but if I were having people over I wouldn't be happy unless I went all out and cooked a meal because that's how I was taught to entertain people. Since we can't agree, we just don't do it.

I LOVE to entertain people at our house. It's a lot of work, but I love planning the menu and appetizers. We have people over for football games (big deal around here) and always have BBQs in the summer. We also do game nights with friends, where we all bring munchie foods and relax and have fun. Really saves money on going out to dinner/drinks at restaurants and bars.

Our group of friends (consisting of 16 people when we're all together, and includes significant others) are ALWAYS over at our house. We hosted Christmas dinner with them last week and we're also hosting New Years Eve-Eve (the 30th) this week. We do this for several reasons:

1) We're the only married couple with a house (others are engaged living in a tiny condo, or living alone in a tiny apartment, or still living at home, etc.)
2) If plans are to go out, between the hubs and I, one of us stays home with the baby
3) LO goes to bed at 6pm, just as the festivities begin so it's perfect timing - she sleeps through it all - I just get interrupted to feed her at midnight (our friends end up staying until 2 or 3am!)

I LOVE having our friends over - it makes me feel normal again.

Cons:
- cleaning before and after
- UBER tired for at least 2 days after each party

It's worth it, though.

In terms of food, we often do potlucks to make things easier.

We LOVE having people over. Our house is laid out perfectly for entertaining and DH loves to cook. We'd rather have people over than have to get dressed up and sit in noisy, crowded, expensive restaurants or bars pretending to be comfortable. We usually have at least one couple or our family over for dinner every few weeks where DH and I make food or we carry in. Every few months, we'll have larger get-together to watch sporting events or a friends "reunion" around holiday times. For those, we usually do heavy appetizers or have people bring a dish. The best part is at the end of the night, we just get to walk upstairs and fall into bed!

I'll have people over more casually but not so much for dinner since my LO goes to sleep early. In the summer we would have people over to BBQ and hang outside on our patio.

No, we don't have people over on a regular basis. We live a bit far from the rest of our friends! I would love to host a party though...

I have never done this... I guess we never did it growing up, so I never picked it up. I would love to do this more though... especially with fun and interesting people.

Do you have dinner parties, or have people over regularly? How do you manage, with everything else going on?
