I live in the same town I grew up in, and my old friends from high school and college (yup same town) have since moved away. We are all in different parts of our lives -- focusing on education, career or family, mainly career. In my group of friends, I am the only one married with a child. With our hectic work schedules and 20 month old toddler, we spend most of our free time running errands and spending time with family. We usually see at least one of our friends once a month but not consistently. We really should try harder though. The beauty of living in New York! But those tend to be acquaintences/parents of LO's friends and classmates. As far as close friends though, most are further like in an outer borough or in NJ (anywhere from 30mins to 1.5 drives). We have much more of a network in our hometowns in CA and are excited to be closer to them when we move next year. Our "group" of about 20 people, gets together maybe once a month or every other month depending on how busy people are. Many of my college friends stayed in Chicago, and live in the downtown area or surrounding suburbs. So we have friends that are within 30 mins of us, and many within 10 mins. Our friends all live 45 minutes away with the only exceptions being a few of my husband's work friends. We live in a very small, very Mennonite community where everyone tends to keep to themselves and their own little groups. We're moving closer to where we grew up though so instead of 45 minutes we'll be like 10 minutes away and I think that will make seeing friends much easier in the future.
