DH has a motorcycle license, but he has never owned a motorcycle. He always talks about getting one, and I told him that if he wanted one, he needed to get one before we had kids. Well, now I'm 7 months pregnant, so he's out of luck! DH is very safety conscious, and he knows how to be a safe and defensive driver on a motorcycle. Still, I don't want him riding around on one once we have a child.

No, we don't own a motorcycle. My husband does want to get one in the future. Motorcycles scare me, so I'm hoping we never have the finances to afford one. It creeps me out that you don't have the same protection you would have in a car. It's too much of a risk for me. I don't have problems with motorcyclists that drive safely. The ones that weave in and out of traffic annoy me.

DH has been around bikes his whole life, his dad has had one for ages. We've owned two, but he sold the second one about 6 months ago. I didn't really worry about him riding it, he worked for a Harley Dealership in his early 20's and learned a ton from them. He's also just in general a great driver and we always have fun going on motorcycle rides. I agree w/ PP's that one of the biggest problems is auto drivers that aren't aware of their surroundings and don't notice bikes because they are so much smaller on the road. I always prefer him to be on a noisy bike, people notice noisy bikes when they're driving. I'm sure he'll have more in the future, but for now, we're just car people.

My husband drives a Harley. You get to drive in the Hov lanes on motorcycles here. The Hov lanes are separated by barriers from the other lanes. So I don't worry about him. We save a lot on gas money too.

DH used to ride. At one point he had 3 really sexy bikes. When we met, he had one. My first time riding on a motorcycle was with him. :)
He sold his bike right before we got married though. No more motorcycles for him now that he's married and a dad.

DH really wants one. I am OK with them and grew up with them. My Dad always had one and I went on rides all the time. DH really wanted one so we could go along with my Brother and SIL who each have a bike of their own. But since they had a LO they have not gone out barely at all. Their beautiful Harleys have just been collecting dust. So I dont want DH to get one anytime soon seeing as we eventually will be expanding our family too and I would just not see us having the time to fully enjoy.

Hubby has a license but he's never owned one. I'm terrified of them as I've heard so many bad stories. Luckily, now that we have a family, hubby has no urge to ever get one.

My husband bought one while we were dating and then sold it a few years later when we moved. I used to ride it with him, we'd mainly take back roads.

I think people might get defensive because a lot of times the people on the motorcycles know a lot about defensive driving.and are good drivers, but people in cars often have their head up their butts and don't take responsibility for the huge piece of dangerous machinery they're driving. I know people's bad driving is something you have to account for but I don't think it's a reason everything but cars should get off the road.

My hubs had a sweet Ducati bike when we first started dating but got rid of it after a couple of years (living in New England, you only really get a couple of months of good riding weather). And we would be ok with our children wanting one as long as they followed all safety rules and took classes.

No, I'm too scared and the husband has seen a lot of motorcycle accident victims (he works at county hospital) so he wouldn't either. BUT, when I was a little kid growing up in Texas our neighbor used to give all the kids rides on his motorcycle - no helmet - around the block and no one thought it was weird at all. I don't even know if my mom knew since we usually just went out to play in the morning and came home when it was dark.

The hubs and I are both in agreement that we are not okay with motorcycles. If our kids ever wanted to ride one, we would fight to the death to prevent it. Or, make them take lessons specified for motorcycles.

No way. When I met my hubby, he had just bought what I thought of as an old man car. Which is good now because it's a good family car, but luckily he's not a motorcycle Guy.

I rode on the back of one once, around Ayers rock in Australia. It was fun, but not something I want to ride every day.

I'm so scared of motorcycles! My dad has one and I rode with him once, that was it. He has hit a deer in every single vehicle he has owned, except the motorcycle...even his small airplane (hit a deer as he landed!). We live in a rural area and I guess he has pretty bad luck. It keeps my mom worried sick because hitting a deer on a motorcyle would be so bad!

I don't think DH has any intention on ever owning a motorcycle either.

Neither of us drives a motorcycle, but we do ride dirt bikes. We also bought a little PW50 for DS when he was 2 1/2, and we got training wheels for him, so he started to ride it last year at 3. (we have a govern on it so it can't get up to speed!). We really press safety, which I think is the most important thing. Wearing the right equipment, boots, helmet, and watching out for others since they won't always watch out for you , is really important.

I've had some very scary experiences on motorcycles and if my kids ever rode a motorcycle... I would be sick with worry. I would insist that they take a class on defensive driving, at the very least.

People who drive motorcycles seem to get so mad when you suggest it's maybe not always so safe... so I never bring it up. It's their life after all.

Do you or someone you love drive a motorcycle? Are you guys both OK with it, or does one of you feel unhappy about it?
