Want to say maybe a 10 minute car ride to my mom's &amp; DH's parents houses.</p> <p>We are currently considering putting a house on my moms property though! She has GREAT boundaries so we don't have to worry about the "Everybody Loves Raymond" fiasco... plus she LOVES DH so she's very respective of his space &amp; would never be all up in his butt over things. lol</p> <p>We would NEVER live next to DH's mom though... We see my FIL about once a week for dinner and my husband talks to or texts with him nearly every day. It's sweet how close they are.</p> <p>My parents live 12 hours away, so we only see them a couple of times a year. We don't have children yet but I am sad that when we do, they won't know their grandparents on my side very well. We would like to get a home with an extra bedroom so that they can come and visit as often as possible, but they're also kind of homebodies and don't like to travel for some reason. Maybe that'll change if they have a grandbaby to come see!</p> <p>I am super envious of all you bees with parents nearby. I always lived within a 30 min drive from my parents and even though they drove me crazy sometimes, my mom and I are both extremely independent and for the most part we had a great balance of seeing each other and staying out of each others' hair. Now that they live a 7 hour drive away it's like torture. I hate talking on the phone. Luckily my mom's whole side of the family lives near me so they tend to come up pretty often.</p> <p>Wagon Sr.'s mom lives a 4 hour drive away but she doesn't drive. She does hop on a train or bus pretty often for weekends since her work schedule allows for long weekend visits. I'd love for her to live near us, but she has a pretty busy and full life where she is and if she moved here, she'd have no friends and no job. Which would mean she'd be around a LOT! </p> <p>Bottom line though, we'd rather have the support and help of grandparents nearby. I am jealous of my friends who still live in our hometown or much closer to it. I wish MIL would move closer too, but she actually might after she retires. I lived 30 min away when I was in college and I think that was pretty comfortable. Ummm.... no thanks. I like to be close enough that she can come for emergencies but far enough away that she doesn't just pop in. She's here 2-3 times a week as it is! They're about 10-15 minutes away. My in laws are a half hour away, I wouldn't mind them being a teeny bit closer. </p>
