I get compliments on my son, though they're never framed in comparison with the other kids. I've had teachers tell me he never cries all day, I've had some exclaim over how cuddly he is, and I had teachers tell me that they want to claim him when he moves up to their class.

But I've never had anyone say, "oh he's so much better than X kid" or "he's so much more advanced than Y".

They've never used the word special at all! They compliment her on the nice aspects of her personality (she doesn't cry, she doesn't screech like the other babies, she's always happy, and they always tell me they like her outfits), but like pps, i assume they tell each parent the good qualities of their own kid.

Hmmmmmm. I don't think my daycare has said anything special about my LO. I'm not sure whether that's good or bad.

Yes, more than 1 teacher have made the same comments about certain things that (apparently) LO is ahead/"advanced" on. I assume they tell all the parents their kids are all special though!

@Pumpkin Pie: yes, i voted for that option. I assume they emphasize each child's area of specialness like @sunny said.

She gets specific comments on how she's happy and a great climber and that they love her but no more special than the other kids. They emphasize all the kid's specialness and seem good at not picking favorites. A huge reason why I chose them! I was never treated as super special growing up but my sister was gifted and it was always brought up and she to this day has a lot of baggage from it even as an adult.

@Pumpkin Pie: I just assumed that they compliment the kids on different things. "John has great ball kicking skills" "Mary has great fine motor skills" "Lisa has great verbal skills" "Mark is a great listener" etc.

I'm surprised at those that have been told that their kid is more special in at least some ways. I assumed caretakers wouldn't compare for some reason.

She comments on how sweet and lovable T is to other babies and toddlers. And says he's always the best behaved out of her bunch. But I think that's just his personality. I don't think that counts as "special". She dotes on all the kids about the smart things they did that day also to me.

My LO gets complimented on how her speech is ahead of the other kids. I realized afterwards that she's one of the only kids (and the only girl) that is monolingual. All the other kids are bilingual so I think that is why she's "ahead". :silly:

A spinoff from another thread asking if you think your child is "more special."

What does your unbiased (non-grandma) childcare provider say about LO's special-ness?
