I found the football hold really helpful initially in the hospital, until I was comfortable with cradle. I did discover that the pillows everyone loves like the Boppy, did not work for me. I am short waisted and when my milk came in (taking my DD to E during preg all the way to an F), there wasn't a lot of space for a baby between my lap and my chest. So I used a regular pillow that was really flat to give some support but not so thick that LO didn't fit.

What I eventually fell in love with was side lying, as I could position her where I needed to without suffocating her. We did that a lot until she was older and able to sit upright and nurse in other ways.

I really liked cross cradle because I could maneuver his head/body with one hand/arm and my breast with the other.

We used football 98% of the time, so I'm no help.

I do mostly cradle, never could manage to do the football hold.

The only tip I have is if you are engorged when your milk comes in and your baby is having trouble latching, pump a little prior to breastfeeding. I had an 8 lb 15 oz little boy and he still couldn't latch due to engorgement. Actually, I pumped for about a week in the mornings before he could latch for the first feeding.

I am pretty large and found the football hold worked well in the beginning. Now, at three months, we mostly do cradle hold, occasionally cross cradle. We try side lying but she is so wiggly that I wind up with sore nipples. I wish it worked better for us. I also keep trying to nurse her while she is sitting up and everything lines up properly but for some reason she hates it.

What hold was most comfortable? The football hold was always awkard for me with my son. We didn't breastfeed long becaUse of my own health issues and this baby I'm treally hoping to be successful.

The cross cradle and cradle look most appealing especially becasuse my daughter will be coming early and I anticipate her to be smaller. My breasts are rather large and I will need to kind of hold my breast away from her face at first like I did with my son im guessing.

Tips?
