So I read somewhere to put a little oil and salt and grind it around the pan for a few minutes to season it - and this would have to be done 2-3 times before it would be easier to cook with.

I've never done this but I have taken an SOS pad to the pan occasionally (which internet people say is a huge no no) but I can see that be similar to what salt is doing. And we used to have a big problem with things sticking to the pan and now we don't.

So I think you need to basically gently scour your pan with some fine salt or fine steel wool pads (nothing too coarse or it'll make too big of scratches)

I hate cooking with my stainless steel pan. :T but if it's oily enough and hot enough, food won't stick.

That's the thing, we always let the pan get hot, but not steaming then add oil and we definitely add way more oil than when we use our hard anodized pans.
I'm thinking there must be some magical temp that we're going over!

I used to have this problem when we first got the pan, I attempted eggs and it was a disaster. We don't have that problem anymore and I'm not sure what is different.

One thing that does seem to help is to make sure the pan is hot before adding the oil, then let the oil heat before adding any food.

I have tried this and it always sticks, i even used to throw a little flour in the pan so the fish wouldnt stick and it still happens. I'm just not a fan of stainless for certain recipes

I agree with @mrsbrewer. That is the advice I have heard on cooking shows.

You have to make sure you use enough oil. You will you a little more than you would I a traditional non stick pan. Also before you put any meats or any food in the pan, you have to make sure the pan is heated thoroughly and make sure the oil is hot enough too!

Have you cooked fish on it?

How do you get it to not stick??? We see them do it all the time on the cooking shows! So why are our fish sticking? We have cooked many different varieties and they all stick.
I'm thinking we are either letting the pan get too hot and/or the oil too hot.

Any tips for cooking on stainless steel pans?
