Is it possible to be a Tomboy in a dress?! If so, that was me! I played with Tonka trucks, loved go-carts, and had my own skate board...yet, I always wore girly clothes up until 2nd grade (when one of my best friends finally asked why I never wore pants).

I was a tomboy. I was always digging for worms, fishing with dad, and bringing frogs into the house to show my mom, and she hated it! :p

Definitely a girly girl! And I still pretty much am. I liked to play outside when I was a kid, but I didn't like getting dirty. Everything was either pink or purple and I loved barbies/baby dolls.

I was a good mix between, I loved getting dressed up and preforming dance/gymnastics, but I was a daddy's girl and would go hunting and fishing and camping all the time with him.

@rubies: LOL! I know what you mean. Times were easier when I didn't have to worry about clothes and makeup. It was fun to just roll around in the dirt and play with cars.

@artbee: such a good compromise! Too cute.

I was a total tomboy, probably because I had an older brother. I wanted to do everything he did.

I was a girly girl. I grew up with mostly boy cousins and the two girls who came after me were total tomboys, so no one knows where my girliness came from. I would play football in the streets with them and close my eyes before I caught the ball then squeal as I ran towards the end zone. They told me many times that the only reason they kept me in was because I was fast, and no one wanted to hit me, so whoever had me on their team was guaranteed a few touchdowns. :-P

@kml636: My mom never pressured to be more "girly" either and I also appreciated that! I took karate classes and she was totally supportive of it. If I have a girl, I will also be supportive of anything she wants to do. :)

Good topic, I have been thinking of this lately since I would ideally like to have girls. I had two brothers, and my mom was very "tom boyish". I never felt pressure to be girly and I never focused on my appearance. Fast forward to after college and now and I'm so girly! But I actually appreciate how I was raised because it was never even brought up.

@chopsuey119: I also played outside all the time... but that's because my friend that lived across the street always wanted to. We would compromise because she wanted to do stuff like ride bikes and I wanted to play house. So we put our dolls in our bike baskets.

I was (and am) such a girly girl. I insisted on wearing a certain dress with neon pink and black dots on it everywhere I went. I had pink sparkly shoes and big poofy pink bows. I liked doing ballet.

I was definitely more of a tomboy growing up. My brother and I were super close and played together all the time. I also had a lot of boy cousins so I ended up playing with a lot of GI Joes and Transformers way more than with my Barbies. I also watched way more boy cartoons than girl cartoons (He-man and Thundercats!)

Were you more of a tomboy or a girly girl during your childhood years?
