My friend's fiance always gives me advice or makes comments about things LO does. For example, LO will be sucking her thumb to try and sleep and he'll take her thumb out and say it's bad for her. Or, he told me to put honey (honey!) on a pacifier to get LO to take it. UH, hello????

@aunt pol: I have no idea. It was always unsolicited and really annoying. It sucks because she was a lifelong friend (since 6th grade), but it was always bringing me down. The last straw was when she was thrilled for another girl who announced her pregnancy, I asked why she couldn't supportive of me in that way, and she said "They're different situations."

@artbee: I thought so too. I'm only on my 2nd cycle and I can already tell that I'm gonna need as many positive vibes as possible!

@lilteacherbee: Yeah that's aweful. Good decision on your part- TTC and parenting is stressful enough, you don't need people that aren't supportive in your life during these times.

@owlmom: I felt the same way. Lots of people said I wouldn't be able to do cloth. I felt like paying so much for them would help motivate me. I think people think of cloth as the old school with the safety pins, but it's so easy!

I'm not a parent yet, but I have lost a friend due to her opinion that we shouldn't be TTC.

Ugh DH has four sisters, two of which are moms. I get on very well with all four, but the childless ones are unbelievable with kids- they know everything, obviously. We had so many fights with them over our wedding and choices made for that, that I made a promise to myself I wouldn't put up with that bull when it comes to children. I don't mind advice and info, but a few bouts of babysitting doesn't make an expert, IMO...
I don't think I know anyone I'd have to avoid because of stuff like that, but time will tell...

No, I've tried to give my parent friends some extra slack, especially since everyone's kid is 2 or younger!

But in my close group of friends, another non-parent friend is definitely judging to the point of potential friendship-loss. Her method is sending them angry emails about a "grievance", then blaming it on them changing since they've had kids. And she often complains that they don't have time for her. I tried to gently tell her that its not an OK thing to do :P

Fortunately, almost all of my friends have LOs under 2, so they know to keep their mouths shut when they don't agree with something I'm doing :) Family is a different story. One of my SILs is awful about it - I dread spending time with her.

@artbee: I have a family member who is the same way about cloth diapers - makes me nuts! Fortunately, I love them, because even if I hated them I might still do it just to prove him wrong.

So I'm the only one with crazy friends?! Another thing he did that pissed me off was tell me that we wouldn't survive with cloth diapering. This coming from someone who 1. Doesn't have children and 2. Has never cloth diapered. LO is 8 months and we're loving our diapers!

No, I haven't lost any friends due to that. We all give our opinions to share different viewpoints but we don't expect anyone to change their parenting ways or anything like that. Luckily I haven't encountered a situation where someone was putting their child's life in danger.

HAHA so funny. I don't have any friends who try to give me advice on how to parent. Occasionally SIL will chime in and give me unsolicited advice.
I try not to give any advice or tell friends that I think their parenting skills are wack. To each her own. (Unless I feel like she's putting her child's life in danger)

I have a friend who is not a parent. He has a niece who lived with him and his parents while she was a baby, and because of that he thinks he is a parent. He will say things like, "with mine, I did this...." With your what? He has tried to tell me about breastfeeding, how to dress LO, etc. So naturally we just stay away from him now. It's just easier than getting together and getting all pissed off.

On a side note, he has said that I've become pretty arguementative since becoming a mom. But I don't argue with anyone else, just him!
