@Mrsdaredevil: well I guess its different for everybody, so you might not hate it as much as I did
For me the worst things were:
- I had an extremely itchy reaction to the spinal that lasted for a couple of days.
- I had to have a catheter inserted. Very uncomfortable.
- I couldnt hold the baby right after she was born, it took about 35 minutes before I was able to hold her, that felt like hours. By the time they brought her to me she was all wrapped and dressed and i didnt get to have skin to skin contact.
- I had to wear compression boots for the first 24 hours and I was already so itchy, the boots just made me itchier and I couldnt scratch my lower legs because the boots didnt give me access.
- I had to stay on my back in bed for the 1st 24 hours, again this was torture due to how itchy I was, my back was super itchy.
-I couldnt walk around or even stand up on my own, so I couldnt play an active role in caring for the baby for the first few days.

I found the study that was mentioned on today's news, if you're interested in checking it out for yourself:
http://www.medpagetoday.com/OBGYN/Pregnancy/32615

And here's an overview of the study with less medical jargon:

I was watching the news this morning and they mentioned a recent study that said induction after 37 weeks DOESN'T lead to increased c-section rates. Which made me happy, because I'm on pace to be induced at/around my due date. I'll have to see if I can find the study to learn more about it (the 30 second snippet on the TV didn't provide a lot of info!).
From what I gathered though, the c-section rates for induced vs. non-induced women after 37 weeks were essentially the same. However, the induced babies were slightly more likely to need a quick stay in NICU (they didn't explain why).

I was induced at 41w1d--this child was just not coming on her own. The induction took forever (48 hours) and I pushed for 3 but I was able to do it vaginally, which was my goal! I had a pre-treatment because my cervix was high and completely closed. I hadn't heard of this option for induction but they inserted a catheter (almost a mini water balloon) into my cervix. I was guaranteed to be at 3-4 cm when the catheter fell out, and I was! For me, other than taking a long time, the induction really wasn't bad at all. You hear such horror stories but it worked out well for us!

I was induced, and did not wind up with a c-section. I was 1cm dilated when I went in for an overnight dose of cervidil. Next morning I was still about that much. Started pitocin at noon, active labor at about 3, and she was born at almost 9. My midwife said my body was ready and the pitocin was the little push it needed.

@skibobrown: If your labor started on its own, I'd say you weren't induced. It's pretty standard for hospitals to speed up even normal labor with pit. :)

Just curious... what do you count as "being induced"? My labor started on its own, but I eventually received pitocin to speed things up, since my labor never really got moving on its own. I delivered naturally just a few hours after being started on pitocin.

I was induced at 38 weeks 4 days due to high cord flows (which restricts oxygen and nutrients to the baby). I had cervidil in for about 7 hours, but something about my baby didn't tolerate any kind of contraction activity, and we had a stat c-section because his heart rate dropped dramatically with each tightening.

I was induced at 40w5d because of low fluid. I had been having false labor for a week beforehand, but contractions would stall. I got a membrane sweep which put me into labor, checked into the hospital, 1.5 hours later when my contractions stalled again they administered pitocin, and 9 hours later, after just an hour of pushing, baby was in my arms. I went in only 1.5 dilated, but my Bishop score was really high because it takes into account more than dilation, and is a better indicator for potential of needing a c-section upon induction.

I was induced at 40 weeks 4days because I had extremely low fluid, I ended up with a c-section because the induction failed. one of the possible reasons why my induction failed was they were being very cautious with the amount of pitocin they were giving me due to the low fluid complication. If they had been able to give me more pitocin I may have gone into labor and not needed a c-section.
I was terrified of a c-section before hand, and to be 100% honest I hated it. It was even worse than I had imagined.

@Mrsdaredevil: I was so terrified of a c-ssection as well but it really isn't that bad. From my experience, when it comes down to the minute that you have to decide whether or not you are going to have a c-section, it is immediate relief that you are about to have your baby in your arms. Well, at least I felt that way after pushing forever. And the recovery isn't ideal but the more you move the better you feel.

First time I was emergency induced at 37wk 5 days. After 13hours of labor I naturally delivered my 7lb 9oz baby girl.
Second time around I was scheduled for induction at 39wk 1 day. After 4 hours of real labor (after water broke) and 6 pushes I naturally delivered my 8lb 13oz baby girl.

I was induced at 39 weeks, 4 days, due to high and rising blood pressure, on a Monday night... and early on Thursday morning I had a C-section. That was a long couple of days. Basically, it didn't really "take": I dilated to 3.5 cm at a slow-and-steady pace, my water broke on its own on Tuesday night, we all thought things were looking good, and then... no more progress. 24 hours later I was STILL at 3.5 cm (the really nice OB on duty called it a 4, but I think she was trying to make me feel better).

Turns out he was sunny-side up and LARGE. (8lb, 15oz, but he pooped three times before they could weigh him, so the midwife said he was likely over 9lb). Those two factors meant he just wasn't moving down right.

Like Mrs. Hot Dog, I don't know that the induction really influenced the outcome. If I'd waited another week+, he would have been even bigger. The midwife told me I could have pushed for 5 days and not got him out.

ETA: I was really hoping/working for a natural childbirth, but after the fact I don't regret the c-section. Sometimes it really is necessary, and I'm grateful to the awesome team I had working with me through labor. So don't read this as a horror story! I got a really sweet baby out of the deal. :-)

I was induced at 40w 2d because I had severe PUPPs and I had not dilated at all and was severely miserable due to the rash. The doc had predicted a biggish baby and gave me the option to go another week to see if she comes on her own or to induce. We went ahead with the induction because my body wasn't showing any signs of progressing on my own and I didn't want to wait a week just to be induced then with an even bigger baby and being miserable on the couch all week. After 3.5 hours of pushing, I went in for a c-section. Turns out her head was crooked and body was sideways. I don't know how much my induction influenced that though.

...Did you end up getting a c-section?

I ask because of research that shows induction makes c-section more likely. I'm curious to see if that holds true at HB!

If you have more pertinent information (like if there were complications that caused c-section, multiples, preemies, etc.), please explain!
