That's the thing - while I *personally* find it rude to attend a wedding empty handed, at least you're still witnessing and supporting a couple's vows and celebrating with them.

A baby shower is just that....a time to shower the baby. I don't see the point in attending if you can't/don't choose to bring something along. Perhaps that is mean spirited of me, I don't know.

I would never show up to a shower without a gift. If I didn't have the money to get them anything, I just wouldn't go and I'd send them a card or something later.

I had a few people come to my baby shower without gifts but I knew money was tight for them so I didn't really expect anything. I was just happy they came.

I have attended showers of women I do not know because c my good friend didn't want to attend by himself. I bring Pampers.

Everyone brought me gifts to my shower. Everyone brought additional gifts if they visited me in the hospital and/or at home postpartum (but smaller gifts, such as a baked pie or an outfit for baby, rather than baby gear).

I do the same! No way would I attend a shower without a gift. If I can't attend, then I will visit postpartum and bring a gift. And if I visit someone in a hospital, I always bring flowers. Always.
I just think, you reap what you sew (kindness):)

I always bring a gift to showers. We had one friend who didn't bring a gift but he brought one when he saw the baby for the first time.

I always bring a gift if I go, and I believe everyone brought something to my showers...but I could be wrong.

I would never show up to a wedding/baby shower empty handed. That being said, if it wasn't someone I was close to, I may not buy a gift if I didn't attend the shower.

I won't send a gift if I'm invited to a shower and can't make it, but I always buy a wedding gift (even if I can't make the wedding) and always send something once baby is born.

@mrsh: I am the same way - shopping for babies is a real good time, anyway.

I've been following the thread about not gifting at weddings, and was curious if any of you have experienced non-gifters at your baby shower? Or went to a shower without a gift?

We have a few, notorious non-gifters in DH's family, and it has crossed my mind that they might show up empty handed at my shower next month.

I feel like it's a little easier to attend a wedding without bringing a gift, since it goes unnoticed at the actual event. However, since most baby showers are often much smaller, and include a designated time to unwrap goodies, I figured it would be much harder to show up without a treat.
