I'd say neither. We could continue living in it but we probably won't. It's a house we bought for just us before we were married but has enough space for us + 1. We'd likely add on a bit if we stayed long term (mainly it only has 1 full bath). We will probably move to a different city/state within the next couple of years, and knew that before we bought our house. So definitely never planned it for forever.

We don't have a house yet, but when we get one, it'll be a starter home. We can't afford our forever home yet, but I don't want to have to rent till we get there!

Ours is an in-between... I see it as a 5-10 year home (we've been here about 2.5 yrs). Next house we want to either have it built and custom, or move to a new city and have new adventure as condo in urban area.

@PrincessBaby: I know exactly where that is! I run the bridge everytime I go home! Omgosh that's so exciting and such a great location. You're going to LOVE it! Our lease is up may 2014 so it would probably be around then. DH wanted to be at his job for a couple more years anyway so it would work out great. Ughh just thinking about your move makes me so jealous/excited. Although I'm scared if I move there ill gain 100lbs!

We're fairly young and we didn't want to break the bank trying to find a forever home, so ours is a starter! It's a 3-bedroom townhouse, which will do nicely for the next 5-7ish years. After that we'll probably look for a 4 bedroom with a nice yard. We're already in a good school district, so we may try to stay in the same area.

Starter. It's very comfortable for us and one LO, and even two young LOs, possible. We do want to do some work to it, like adding a deck, so we intend on staying here a while. But it won't accommodate a growing (as in, LOs growing older) family for very long. Even if we only have one child, I can see it being cramped with two adults and a teenager. I think it will work well for us for 5-10 years depending on our needs, but it's not a forever home. It's what we could afford at the time.

Definitely a starter home, it is much too small to be a forever home.

We will probably look to sell and buy a bigger house in the next few years.

@luckypenny: We're building in Mount Pleasant (we really wanted to build this time and there's just not any new construction in Charleston proper) right next to the big bridge that connects Mt Pleasant to downtown Charleston/King st....So we're only about 7-8 mins from Charleston downtown and about 10 minutes away from the beach in the other direction...Welove Charleston! My DH was stationed there previously when he was in the CG and he told me on our first date that he would raise his family there. We've spent the last couple of years getting things together in preparation for a move to Charleston but we didn't really get serious about it until our Babymoon there. We rented a car and went house shopping in tons of different areas, and we totally happened upon this amazing new neighborhood that is in just a phenomenal location as far as proximity to the beach and downtown. It's supposed to be completed in July and we're actually going there in a couple of weeks to finalize all of our cosmetic choices:). When are you guys thinking of moving?

It could be our forever home. We would like it to be but depends on a few things.
DH has 7 more years until he retires from the Military. So it depends on where we may go. Fortuantly his job is mainly where we are not. Thats why we felt comfortable buying a home here.
We are not sure if we will stay here once he retires from the Navy or if we may move. I like it where we are and with little ones, we may stay until they are at least done with school.

when we bought the house 3 years ago, we were engaged and our plan was to stay in the house until we were ready for kid number 2, but if we had to stay longer we would be comfortable doing so. We recently added on living space and a powder room and we're planning on finishing the basement. There's a few other project we would do if this was our forever home but while i like the location in town and the school district, its on a really busy street and that would probably be our biggest motivation to move.

We're in a starter home, I guess. We love it here, but have every intention of moving. Once we get this house fully finished & some debts paid off, we'll sell it and flip another house.

If that isn't in the cards, we will absolutely move before we have kids in middle school. For bedroom size reasons along with a crappy school zone.

Neither! The house is too big to be a starter and we could stay forever if we wanted, but we plan on moving/building down the road. We purposefully bought big so we'd have room to grow and time for the house value to increase in a significant way.

@autumnlove: this would be the only reason we would want to go bigger- if we have more then two kids. Two bedrooms are very large but the third is a perfect nursery/ office/ playroom size. It could be a third bedroom for a third child but that kid definitely would be getting the short end of the stick!

Starter home; but we knew that going in. When we bought it, we were not even married yet and were very, very undecided on whether or not we would have any children at all – so we bought a place that was a great size for the 2 of us and in a fun neighborhood.

This time around, we looked in neighborhoods based on the schools, and looked for places with plenty of room for us and LO. We also wanted a yard so we can get a dog someday. So, now we have our forever home.

The house we are working on getting (what a process!), could be a forever home. It has 4 bedrooms (6 if you count the unfinished basement ones), lots of square feet and 1.5 baths. Plus it's on .5 an acre so lots of room to play! It needs a lot of updating though. We could make it work forever if we needed to, but we will see where life takes us!
