Maybe I don't see a lot of parents with their kids but I feel like a lot of interaction now is in front of the TV or computer and is making kids socially weird. My dad has his doctorate in elementary education so maybe that's why I have a bit of different experience but I feel like parent child interaction now is so structured and different than normal play used to be. But it sounds like my parents played with us more than the average household.

wait, parents now have more time than stay at home moms of the 40s did? i think it's because they have *less* time they feel like they need to make it quality time

also... we don't have as clear set lines between adult and child as they used to, so it's easier to act like a child and want to play with children now

My parents didn't play with me either. I think now, though, parents play with their kids SO much because they feel it helps them in their development (physical? Mental?) - Like, the more active they are, the smarter they can be? I don't know. All I know is that my parents were way to busy to play with us...My brother and I just played on our own!

I am always interested in this topic because I don't remember my parents playing with me but it seems like everyone I know plays A LOT with their kids now. What do you think is the difference?
