Hubs didn't grow up with pets and isn't especially excited about animals in the house. So we will have many pets I believe. He will be responsible for them. At 15 months he already feeds the dogs. So we will definitely keep that up. We also have a cat and while we most likely will not replace him when he passes.</p> <p>DD already helps with the cat, at almost 28m DD she is responsible for feeding him every day (started out helping me but now insists on doing it herself and in about 2 months has yet to forget he needs fed). My dog now is almost 10, and he likes being an only dog so I wouldn't add a second dog to the mix. But, I think after he passes (hopefully not for a long time!), we will wait until our kids are old enough to beg for a dog. We would really try and make them be as responsible for it as we can, but also realize that in reality, it will be us taking care of it. We both love dogs and I think they add a lot to a family and would want our kids to be dog lovers as well. I also would never want to deal with a puppy and a baby at the same time though, so I think the youngest would have to be at least a toddler. She's had her puppy for about a year and she's 7 1/2.
