She's only vomited once, and it was extremely projectile, curdled, and smelled sour.

DS was a spitter and we always wondered if we'd know if he just spit up or vomited. We definitely knew the the difference when he vomited. It was much more forceful and projected much further. It wasn't just out of his mouth spiddle, it was all over the floor/him/us. You'll know.

Vomit smelled a lot more "sour" than normal spit-up.

I think you would know. With spit up, it just kind of comes up and doesn't really bother them at all. Vomiting is much more forceful.

Agree with the 'you just know' answers. If you're not sure, it's most likely just spit up.

@jill_a55: At that age, I was told vomiting would be forceful. LO was always a big spitter, but has had 2 stomach bugs so far... and yeah, vomiting resulted in enormous amounts. You would know for sure.

@Foodnerd81: l gets a bit of reflux vomit, it is so much like spit up, and doesn't bug him at all. But when he caught a virus and vomited..... Yea, you just know.

I always wondered this, but C wasn't a big spitter anyway. Then she threw up, and all I can say is, you just know.

I was told that vomit is curdled looking, and spit up is just regular milky looking.

My daughter threw up once at that age and it was more forceful then spitup and there was a lot more coming out then when she spit up.

I would become concerned if your LO is throwing up a lot, is running a fever, or if she looks like she is in pain.

How do you tell the difference between spit up and throw up when they're little? My LO is almost 8 weeks and I'm just curious about when it should be concerning!
