It really does depend on what kind of getaway we want. I think dh and I are more activities type of people. I'd like to just stay in the room and do nothing and watch tv, but DH loves to explore and do things. I love great food and would LOVE to go to the ballet. We made a compromise that we would go to an oktoberfest that will be the same weekend. We have a place I love to go to that's in a beautiful location, you can upgrade your room to have a whirlpool bath tub, and there's great lake views. A place like that, some room service, and the hotel pool are pretty much all I'd need to be happy :). But I also wouldn't do the ballet (because I can go to the ballet in my own city) or a horse drawn carriage. I say splurge on room. I seriously don't care what activities we do, I just want a nice room and a nice bed where I can sleep as much as I want. We will go to decent dinners but I don't need super fancy. Dh would hate the ballet. We are actually thinking about going to a movie in the theater since we would never pay a baby sitter just for that!
