@lamariniere: yes, i am ridiculously stressed! it's my first set of finals since going back to school, and the holidays, and a bunch of other stuff. that's an interesting thought, i've heard of stress making you skip periods & delay things, but i hadn't considered that it could actually cause bleeding. hmmmm.... maybe that could be it

@mrs. bird: are you particularly stressed right now? I have noticed that my spotting gets a little more random when I'm stressed. About two months ago I had a lot going on and had lots of spotting before and after AF, but the last two cycles since then have been more normal.

@blackbird: this is the first cycle it's happened. My period was just about done at thanksgiving, it had been light, but then I've just been spotting everyday since then. It's red so I know it's not old blood. Not enough to need a pad, but enough to be apparent every time I wipe & the cramps are always there, not as bad as period cramps off BC, but similar to period cramps on BC. Just seems strange to start this all the sudden, but I'm sure if I called, they'd say it's no big deal.

@mrs. bird: Well i've had them add a small like, 5 mg dose of progesterone or estrogen to my tablets. I have to change my BC a lot because i'm on it without any breaks for my period, so i just tend to get to a point where it's not keeping my period at bay as much as it needs to be. If it's more than a couple months, I'd call and ask about it.

@blackbird: if it keeps going on for multiple cycles or for many days within one cycle? What sort of hormonal supplement dose?

@LindsayInNY: I've only ever taken steady dose pills, but that is interesting, thanks!

@lamariniere: I usually spot right before AF as well. This is after which I haven't had before (not while on BC at least), it's just annoying & it's been everyday for wks. I'm crampy & cranky :D I just want it to go away.

I have had spotting both on and off of BC pills (ortho cyclen and progesterone only pills). I now have the copper iud and get spotting sometimes, although usually only a day or to before AF. I think it's pretty "normal" for my body to spot up to 4-5 days before AF arrives. I've mentioned it to several doctors and they've never been concerned.

I had that happen. It was because I was on BC that had a fluctuating dose (ortho tri-cyclen). I had been on it a couple years, I think? I needed a steady dose pill to stop the spotting. It was fine after that.

If you've had spotting while on BC, when did it happen & how long did it last? Was is right when you started or had you been on it for a while? Did your dr seem to think it was a reason to change the type of BC you were on? If you changed pills, did the same thing happen when you changed or did that stop it?
