haha I have been sitting here the last few days wondering if this is the appearance of the terrible twos. I am still holding out hope that it's a "phase". Every single diaper change is a epic tantrum like none we have ever seen. Just this morning in the span of 3 hours she had 3 epic tantrums. Saying "no" to her equals a epic tantrum. Sometimes I just have to walk away and let her tantrum away!
She wants to walk everywhere and will go "plank" in the car seats when she hasn't done that in eons. Or going limp noodle when we have to leave somewhere. Oy. It's fun. :P

But on the flip side when she is not tantrum-ing she is so super sweet and fun!

I have a June 2012 baby and I've been wondering what "exactly" people mean by terrible 2's. Is it the agonizing tantrums they throw? Disobeying on purpose (like I say, "M, we don't throw toys" and she looks me in the eye and does it again? Or is it just throwing all of her bowls off the table because she's angry that I touched her cup?

If so, we're there.

@lavender: I was about to say that terrible twos started at around 18 months also. :)

But for us LO just has meltdowns. I actually think they are kind of cute because before he throws himself on the ground he looks to make sure it's carpet. Haha. DH says I need to take them more seriously because we don't want to "reward" that type of behavior ... it's true... I'm bad.

He hasn't found words yet but he does say "no" a lot but he doesn't quite know how to use it well. Do you want this? "no" Do you not want this? "no". :D

LO has had the terrible twos since 18 months. She wants to do everything herself and will usually test us, especially at mealtime. She likes to drop her fork on purpose and say " uh uh fork fell down" and after the second time when I take her fork away that's when the tears start.

@mrsjazz: the worse is when it is a safety thing. We are the second floor of the apartment, and the drop is actually three stories because we're on the side with the underground garage. We have two large windows in the living room that he can climb up onto the windowsill... I'm sure with enough pressure it's possible to pop out that window, break the glass etc... So we don't let him stand in the window but he tries to do it allllll the time. It started out innocent, he wants to see the garbage truck or school buses - but now he knows he's not supposed to and does it anyway. I have to be vigilant if I want the window open because a screen isn't held in tightly enough.

@Mrs. Pen: Yes, the doing something they know they are not supposed to do. My LO will do something and then right after say what we normally tell her, like scream and then say "No screaming!" or eat cat food and then say, "No cat food!"

Not terrible yet, but not always fun. She's definitely more stubborn these days.

I wouldn't call them terrible yet... but he has his moments. He has days where he is just cranky and everything upsets him. He is definitely testing a lot of boundaries too - like when we tell him not to do something, he does it and then waits to see what we will do. He does hate being told no - his favorite activities are games and Daniel Tiger on my iPad and I have to constantly say no, you can't play the iPad - cue meltdown.

He's also become a little more difficult at mealtime - picking and choosing what he wants to eat when he used to be a really consistent eater!

They have in our home. LO's temper has come out and she is being defiant. We have to repeat ourselves over and over again to get her to do certain things. And she has been very vocal about what she doesn't like: "I don't want to get out of bath!" "I don't want to go home!" "I don't want to nap" "I don't like it!" These are the phrases that seem to pass out of her mouth all the time now. Not to mention the screaming, crying, tantrums.

I think this is the terrible twos. Have they shown up in your home yet? How?
