We were given the go-ahead to start giving her sips of milk and mixing it with her formula in her bottles now that she's 11 months. Our ped told us that he wants her getting 16-20oz of whole milk a day along with meals and snacks.

I'm terrified too. We gave her a sip of milk the other day and she was not enthused.

Cobi is one and I don't see us weaning in the near future. I always said I was willing to go until 2 but I may actually go until 3 depending on how it's going.

One year was my goal, and now 18 mos is my next goal and we'll reassess how it's going. We are mutually happy so I see no reason to stop a good thing at this point :)

My doc doesn't want her on cow's milk until 1. I have tried to give her a bit but she looks at me like i am trying to poison her. Warm, cold, baby doesn't want any of it.

I plan on continuing morning and evening feeds, and will just try and ensure she gets enough dairy throughout the day through yogurt and cheese. I will offer her formula, but i have not been successful at getting her to take the bottle (even if given by someone else).

I'll be weaning my son soon b/c he'll also be 1 in a few weeks. I'm thinking about going to organic formula first for a couple of months and then to cows milk. No reason just decided to do it that way. LOL! I also wonder if weaning will help with the separation anxiety b/c, oh boy, this one is SO attached to me. His older brother is the completely opposite. Running away from me. Well, he's almost 4... :)

Once I go back to work, I am lucky to only work 2 days a week, so we will keep up what we are doing if my supply hold up once I stop motilium at 1 year, and on daddy or daycare days he will get milk in a cup instead of nursing sessions. If my supply drops once I stop motilium (which is likely since every time I try to wean off of it my supply drops) he will likely lose interest anyways, so we will wean.

Lowly will be one in 19 days! She will still nurse on demand, and we don't do cow's milk. She is BF enough that for drinks we just do water (did this with my oldest, as well). We do eat some whole fat dairy products, though.

@mediagirl: I'm worried about weekends, too. I plan on dropping the pump and only nursing when I get home from work, before bed, and in the morning. I think I'll just have to stick to the same schedule on the weekends to be consistent.

Also, I plan on giving him cow's milk during the day because other "milks" don't have nearly as much protein and fat, which his little brain needs! I wish I had a bigger freezer stash so I could give him breastmilk in a sippy cup once I'm done pumping, but I only have like 12 oz left :(

Technically my baby was born in Spring since Summer isn't officially here until June 20 so I'll chime in. :)

I plan on nursing at night and in the morning as long as she likes. I will need to cut out at least one, if not two of my daytime pump sessions when I hit 1 year as per a plan I had written up with my company. I think if I keep one pump session a day during the day, I should still make enough for morning and evening nursing sessions.

The question then is...what do you do on weekends? This is a tough subject for working moms!! I'm going to keep my eye on this one.

M turns 1 at end of April my plan right now is to bf as long as she wants to up till 2. I will continue pumping at work as long as supply allows. I currently pump 3x a day and desperately want to cut the before bed session. Maybe around 15-16 months?
I'm hoping she self weans nursing before 2!

I won't be introducing any kind of milk till 13 months and it will likely be pasteurized, non homogenized, grass fed cows from a local dairy farm.

Right now, the plan is to still breastfeed after she turns 1 in May. But, if I were working and had to pump, I would think about just nusing at night and morning. I will likely give cows milk and water during the day, but she still doesn't take a sippy cup. I have no clue when we will actually wean.

Kellymom.com has some great info on bf'ing into toddlerhood & nutritional needs. I've talked with lots of moms that had/have bebes that were still almost completely ebf well into their 2nd year of life.

For us, our plan is to continue bf'ing on demand &, so long as she's continuing to grow on her growth curve, not worry about her solids intake so much.

When we do introduce milk I'm thinking we'll go to hemp milk.

DS turns 1 in a week and a half and we just started weaning. He just wasn't into it anymore so I stopped dragging my feet about it and am weaning the feedings he wasn't really into anymore.

For now, he will get breastmilk since I have a large freezer stash. After that, I am not sure but I think our stash will last us a little while.

I worry about this too. I'm going to try to go to just 2-3 (hopefully 2) nursing sessions a day at a year and hope she self-weans from there. I've been considering trying something other than cows' milk, but I haven't researched it enough to make a decision.

My baby will be a yeast old next month and i am really worried about weaning. How can i be sure she will be getting enough nutrition from solid foods? She is pretty great with foods and loves to feed herself especially raisins but right now i love that i can still breast feed her so i don't have to worry if she is getting a balanced diet from solids.
Are any of you planning to give formula or breast milk after your baby turns 1? Also is anyone planning to give almond milk instead of cow's milk?
