@leialou: @bluestriped bee: @mrs. 64: @rahlyrah: @mfa_lady: Thank you for your kind words, ladies.

@permastudent: Thank you. I get emotional when I read about others having tough times with their pets, just like you do.

@littlecasita1122: I appreciate you sharing your experience. My cat is similarly getting confused. She's trying to scoop her new food (it's like a paste) with her paw and her fur is getting messy and she isn't able to clean it up. I am trying to take it day by day and enjoy the time we are spending together. Last night she slept on my chest while purring and I was able to be just happy with her.

@mrsscb: I'm so sorry you lost your cat last year. I, too, imagined DS growing up with our cat around and it's hard to let go of that picture. I'm trying to find a silver lining in the fact that, since DS is only 14 months, he will probably notice she's gone but most likely won't be upset by it.

@swedishfish: A 20 lb tumor - I didn't know that was possible. That's wonderful that your dog lived two more years.

@mrs. bee: Thank you. It's wonderful to hear that your cat was able to undergo treatment and live several more years. I'm sorry you lost her two years ago. Thank you for the food recommendations as well. My cat can really only eat paste-type foods, so it's helpful to know of others besides the Hill's a/d that the vet gave us.

I am so sorry :( I am just crazy about my dog, and I always get teary when I hear about other people going through a rough time with their pets because it is easy enough to put myself in that position.

Your kitty had a great life with you and knows that you love her. Hugs, lady.

I'm so sorry. :(

My cat was diagnosed with a fibrosarcoma in her cheek when she was 7. The tumor was so aggressive it literally appeared overnight and was the size of a quarter. We went through radiation and chemo and surgery and she lived several more very happy tumor-free years.

We had to put her down two years ago and it was so hard and sad because she was just about the sweetest cat ever. It's never easy to put a pet down, but try to find solace that your cat loves you and knows you love her too. Hopefully you can enjoy these last months together.

I've dealt with a lot of feeding problems because of the cancer and my other cat developed anorexia. It is very important that your cat eat because they can very quickly develop fatty liver disease. What worked for my cats was Nutrical paste, chicken or turkey flavored baby Beechnut baby food, and the special presciption Science Diet.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. It's never easy to say bye to a pet. :( Please let me know if I can help in any way!

I'm so sorry to hear this. When I was in college, we went through a similar situation with the cat I grew up with. She became deaf and was getting confused (starting using the tub as a litter box), and then her breath started to smell very badly. We took her to the vet and the blood tests confirmed she had cancer. One of her cheeks started to bulge and then she couldn't eat much so we made the decision to put her down.

It's tough watching them getting sicker and sicker :( I don't really have any advice but I hope you at least get to enjoy the time you still have with her. We made sure to give her treats often, let her sit with us when she wanted, and just tried to make her as comfortable as possible. Lots of hugs to you :(

We had a dog when I was younger who had a 20 pound tumor removed. The vet expected him to live a few months but he lived two more years.

I'm so sorry. Losing a pet is so hard, and I can relate to your situation. I lost my 7-year-old cat very suddenly last summer. I had the same feelings as you -- I thought we'd have at least ten more years together. My H and I used to talk about how our future children would be able to play with her. It is so hard, big *hugs* to you. You have obviously given her a wonderful life and she's lucky to have someone who cares so much.

I found out today for sure that my 8 year old cat has squamous cell carcinoma and will probably need to be put down fairly soon. Since January her weight has dropped from 8.5 to 4.5 pounds. She hadn't been eating so I took her to the vet three weeks ago. Her balance also started to be off and she would fall down the stairs. They said it was an ear infection and gave me antibiotics. I switched to wet food and she started eating a little of that, but wasn't improving that much. I took her back to a different vet last week who said that she most likely has cancer. Her left eye is bulging and there's a hard mass behind her left ear. The vet said to consider her in a hospice state now. She's not in pain, but probably won't last more than a few months. The vet said we'll know it's time to euthanize her when she stops eating completely and starts hiding.

I'm not sure why I'm posting this, I'm just sad because I expected nearly another decade with my beloved cat. She's so sweet and usually energetic and full of personality. It's heartbreaking to see her in such a state. If anyone else's pet has had experience with this cancer, I'd love to hear your stories.
