@Iced Tea: I'm 6 months postpartum. I recently ordered a "postnatal fitness" DVD from Amazon that's supposed designed to help women with diastasis recti knit their abs back together. Here's to hoping!

I don't know how many months postpartum you are, but I couldn't carry for long until I got back a lot of my core strength and stability (like 8 months!).

I am petite as well: 5'2 and 112. My LO is 21 pounds. I find the connecta a lot more comfortable for me (especially front carries) than any of the padded options. The padding bothers my hips and feels so stiff. As a bonus, the connecta folds up super small and will easily fit in a diaper bag.

Connectas are from the UK, and there aren't a lot of distributors for them in the US. I got mine from Bohemian Baby Boutique.

@bluestriped bee: It's probably because I have noooo core muscles left! I looked like this at 40 weeks, so basically total diastasis recti. I tried a back carry today and it felt much better.... though I didn't like how it made my belly pooch obvious :)

@DesertDreams88: yeah, I've heard forward facing with a baby that is more than 20 ish pounds isn't comfortable for most.

I've always heard Beco's are great for petite moms. As a petite mom, I agree. I didn't like my DH's ergo.

I think going to a BWI would help. You might even be able to ask an local BWI to come to your house to help.

Also, posting pics of your carry could help. Not sure if anyone here is a BWI-expert. We might be able to determine why it's not comfortable.

@DesertDreams88: Once my LOs were much over 15 lbs no front carrier was comfortable for long. I switched to a back carry and liked both my ergo and beco.

@bluestriped bee: both ways (in the Beco), but it's definitely worse when he is forward facing so I've mainly stuck to facing in.

I have a similar build to yours, I'm 5'1 and currently 112 lbs, usually 115ish. My lo isn't super heavy, but she's on the tall side. She's 11 months and 22 lbs and 29 inches. We have a Tula and love it. We are doing mostly back carries now, and her weight is much more evenly distributed that way.

@oliviaoblivia: LO is currently 17 months 35 pounds and 34 inches tall. At a year he was not that much smaller. His knees made it comfortably to the edge of the carrier when we switched and he almost 25 pounds, I dont know how tall he was. He's kinda huge...

@ShootingStar: I dont think so. It was a almost a year ago at this point so my memory isn't perfect. We were fit by a store that specializes in SSC, wraps and helping you find the right one. I trust them. I think both of us were more comfortable.

I dont remember how tall he was at the time but he's always been really big.

The tula is not my favorite for a back cary because the padded part of the waist strap misses the front of my hips. But OP is smaller then me so it might not be an issue.

I use a wrap for a back carry and ITS AMAZING! but that didn't really work for us until LO could stand on his own around a year.

@maddyz: are you sure you're not extending his legs too much? Toddler tulas usually don't fit until they're at least in 2T pants.

I switched my lo to a toddler tula at 6 months and a bit under 25 pound. It was amazing. I could wear him again. I would stick it out until lo can fit in the toddler tula, it won't be so long.

Toddler carriers are really more for preschoolers. A is 28" and almost 21 lbs at six months and just now fits into a standard Tula well. I regularly wear my 18 month old in the standard and can carry my 36lb 39" 3.5 year old comfortably enough in a standard.

If you're having trouble with strength in a front carry he should be about ready for a back carry. As long as his neck control is good and he is sitting well on his own I'd try a back carry.

@DesertDreams88: He's definitely too small for toddler carriers. Try a back carry. You might even want to try moving the bottom of the carrier to your belly button area. That may help make the front carry more comfortable.

I've been wearing LO in an Ergo Original or a Beco Gemini. I love the closeness but he is SO DARN HEAVY. I have it all adjusted the way it should be - all the straps are cinched & positioned properly and I can kiss his head. But I can barely wear him for more than 25-30 minutes. He is almost 19lbs at 6mo, and 27in. I am petite, at 5'2" and about 125lbs (trying to get back to pre-preg weight of 115).

Do you think I would have more luck with a Tula, a Lillebaby, or a Kinderpack? And to make it more complicated, there are Tula Toddlers and Kinderpack Toddlers, made for bigger babies starting at 25lbs.... maybe wait and ask for Christmas?

And I know I could go to a BWI group and see what they have in their library.... but I'm going into my busy season at work and I'm a bit shy in real life, haha :)
