We moved up to Stage 2 nipples when LO started to not finish her bottles around 6ish months. It was an experiment to see whether or not she got bored during her feedings, and I was right. As soon as I replaced her nipples with the next higher flow, she started finishing her bottles again. It never negatively impacted BFing. It may help to know that as they get older, LOs become a lot more efficient at emptying your breast(s) . . so a (slightly) faster flow nipple will not likely deter your BFing.

I didn't move up until I was completely done nursing, which for us was 7 mo. They didn't seem annoyed, but once they were on all bottles it was clear when they were ready to move up to stages 2 and 3.

My day care asked if I could move my LO to a stage 2 because it was taking him a really long time to finish a bottle. I don't remember what age that occurred, but it didn't interfere with our nursing at all.

My son is 8 months and we're still using stage 1. Mostly because he likes to feed himself now and the faster flow drips everywhere. If he's not bothered by the stage 1, I don't see why you have to change it.

What you read is right... generally, if your baby is doing well on the slowest flow nipple then I would stick with it!

If he's still taking the slow flow & not fussing at feedings then I wouldn't change it! The slower the flow, the more he has to work for feedings, and the longer the feeding will be, making them closer to a nursing session.

My daughter was bottle fed, and at some point she clearly started getting frustrated with the slow-flow nipples. Then we would move up a stage at that point. If your LO isn't getting frustrated, then it seems like you could easily just stick with the slower-flow ones.

My nanny suggested that LO (who is 8 months old) start to use stage 2 nipples in his daytime bottles. I have kept him on stage 1 because I heard somewhere that it's closer to the flow of breastfeeding. Is this true? Should I keep him on stage 1 nipples or would it not make a difference to his breastfeeding to move him up?
