I used to have a Diaper Genie, hated it with a passion, so we threw it away after DD1. This time we are using a stainless steel can and will take all poopy diapers immediately outside.

we have an ubbi, the stainless steel diaper trashcan. we were using a regular trashcan before and i felt like it's biggest problem was how much the lid opened when we threw away a diaper--all the stink came out. there's still obviously some stink with the ubbi when we open it, but a lot less because the opening is smaller.

We use a small tin bin, no lid. We take it out every day and wash it out regularly.

We used a regular trash can with our DD and it worked great - for poop diapers I would put it in one of those doggy poop bags first, tie it shut and then toss - we never had odor but did empty the trash every other day

We've been happy with a trash can. It rinses out really easily, too, and we can prop the lid open and let it air out easily outside. I also like that I don't have to mess with anything when i have my left hand on E and my right hand has a diaper. I also spray poop (cloth) diapers with Bac-Out....and poop goes in the toilet, so our poop trash has been pretty minimal....and we put baking soda stick ups in the bottom!

We do the same as Gracecat and it only smells if we let it get really full. We also line it with a febreze scented glad bag.

We use stainless steel but only for pee diapers. All poo nappies go outside trashcan immediately.

We bought a simple human white one for the nursery and it holds the smell well. We do put a febreeze type of thing in the bottom to help with the smell. But I do make my husband to the trash bag changes since that's just too much smell for me!

A good compromise is the Ubbi - it's a stainless steel diaper pail, and the trapdoor on top is small so you can open and close it very fast! It completely contains the smell when it's closed (and uses regular trash bags).

It works well when it's closed! Haha, i dread having to throw another diaper in it and releasing the smell (and we flush the poop)

For DD we've had a Diaper Dekor for the past 3 years. For the most part we've liked it but the plastic has absorbed quite a bit of stink. For DS I'm considering buying just a regular stainless steel trashcan but am worried that it won't trap the stink as well when throwing diapers away since there's no trap door. For those that use a regular trashcan, do you think it holds the smell pretty well?
