LO is 3 and does this from time to time, definitely at least once or twice but some nights it's like 5 or 6 times. It often ends up being number two so we haven't had the heart to call him out on it, I think sometimes he wants to do it but it's not coming out!
But it's annoying when he's stalling - sometimes we'll ask do you actually have to go or not really, and then he'll say not really

M did this for a while too. I think it may have been a novelty thing? She doesn't anymore and may need to get up once every few weeks or so.

I try to avoid this by encouraging DS to pee before bath, but I can't force him and he also uses potty as a stalling tactic. We talk about how you need to be quick at bedtime and there are no rewards for using it. But yeah it was really hard to potty train him in the first place so I don't fight him on this!

we still do this and he's 4 now. i feel like i can't tell him he CAN'T go potty when he asks (even though i know he probably doesn't have to again) because that'll be the time he pees himself. We just tell him we're disappointed he didn't "get it all out" the first time and then we make him go to the bathroom by himself (so he doesn't sit there and try to chat with us). it's a never-ending battle.

We never made it a "thing". We say you don't have to ask to go potty you just go. We don't go with her. We are close if she needs us but we don't let it mean extra time with us. So it quickly passed. She has found many other ways to stall :)

Our LO does this. I usually just say, "let me hear you pee!!", and try to make it funny. Sometimes if she still refuses, I just tell her she can't get off the toilet until she pees. If she insists she doesn't have to, I let it go. She's never had a night time accident.

@Bao: No advice, just commiseration. DD2 definitely uses peeing as a stalling tactic...and at 6 months since we started potty training, she's more than capable of going by herself on a small potty in the bathroom adjoining her room. She flat out refuses to take herself. Sometimes she goes, sometimes she doesn't, so it's hard to call her bluff. I've caught DH telling her to just pee in her pull up (she wears one at night), but that infuriates me, since I'm the one who did all the potty training work and don't care to do it again. Sigh.

I try to make taking her as uninteresting as possible. I don't really talk to her, look at her, or applaud her much for going after bedtime.

My almost 3 year old is currently potty training. We have her go to the bathroom right before we go up to her bed, sometimes she goes and sometimes she doesn't. Whether she goes or not she comes out saying she has to go. I'll give in 2-3 times since she's new to this potty thing, but I don't want it to become a habit. A few times she actually has went, or went again but 8 out of 10 times she doesn't go.

I don't want to get a potty chair for her room so that idea is out. Any other ideas or am I just stuck doing this for a while until she catches on more?
