I do it with pee w/ DD sometimes; but she can barely stay still that it's easier if she lays down.

I've been doing this since my son has been pulli up to stand (around 9mths) and it definitely made diaper changes a lot less difficult. We have been using the huggies little movers diaper pants like someone else suggested and hey have been working great.

I do this sometimes with mine once they're toddlers. I find getting the diaper on again a little tricky, so it's not my preference. I don't mind doing it if they don't want to lie down though. I don't think wiping is a bi deal. Mine just bends over my knee as I'm squatting, which is what her potty trained big sis does for #2's as well.

I never did because LO was very sensitive and would develop a rash easily if she wasnt wiped properly and fully dry before putting on the next diaper. I dont think you can fully achieve that whilst they are standing especially with a girl

Well I just did a standing diaper change with a poop in the bathroom. I had DS stand on the stool by the sink, which was fine cause he played with the soap and stayed put. I was able to easily flush the poop and wiping was fine. It bothered my back a little cause I was crouching way down. Work in progress!

@macintosh: regular ones! I just have her stand in front of me while I sit on the couch. I put the back part up and kind of hold it with my knee and then wrap the diaper around the front and put the tabs on!

@JoyfulKiwi: LOL! His new thing is kicking both feet, which often land in my face. That and scratching his baby balls while I try desperately to keep the poop off his hands.

I do stand up changes with my daughter a few times a day. She's been throwing fits during normal changes lately. It's easiest to do when she's busy with something else like a snack or coloring. I just make sure she has something in front of her to grab so she can lift her feet (sometimes she grabs my shoulders). We use cloth diapers though and that makes it a bit trickier. If use disposables, it's fairly easy!

@junebugsmama: I've seen those and wondered. I'm thinking DH would need to wait til E can help with pushing down and pulling up but that won't be long. He also has to be willing to stand still :silly:

@T.H.O.U.: yeah that's what I was thinking! Then I second guess it because I've heard stories on LOs taking their diapers off.

@Bao: do you use regular diapers or the slip on kind?

For DH to do it (from a seated position, only 1 functional arm), I think E would need to stand on a stool or something. Getting him to climb up would be easy, getting him to stay would be harder.

Pee changes are the best- DD takes off her own pull-up, I wipe, she puts on a new pull up. So easy. Poops are tricky standing up- I feel like I never really get her totally clean since I can't see everything. It's the best for when the diaper change location is less than ideal (such as the men's room where there is inevitably never a changing table).

I did it with my son (after seeing his Montessori teachers do it). It was tricky at first, but after a while I loved it. Getting it off is easy (for BMs it takes more finesse) and getting it on wasn't any harder than wrestling an alligator, which is what it was like to change my kid laying down! :silly:

Really easy on a boy! Now that he can also wear pull ups (they start in size 2t) it's even easier for him to grab our shoulders and step in.

We do it sometimes! Just because my son hates lying still. It's kinda like wrestling still lol! With poops it's really hard. They have some diapers that have stretchy attached sides, like pull ups, and they make it super easy! Huggies calls them diaper pants.

I was brainstorming ways to get DH more involved in helping with our DS and I decided to look up standing diaper changing. Apparently this is a big thing in Montessori!

DS hates laying on the changing table already (especially in public bathrooms). I'm thinking this sounds like a good thing to try if we can make it work. Does anyone do the standing diaper change? What's your process like?
