I agree with @MsLipGloss; baby doesn't have to have thrush for you to have it! I would get a prescription for diflucan and I would also get a scrip for APNO--it's an amazing nipple cream that contains anti fungal meds to help ward off thrush, and it will also heal any cracks/issues you have.

I totally sympathize, I went through something similar (tongue tied LO, which led to thrush, with a bout of mastitis thrown in there, followed by vasospasms!).

I had thrush and my LO did not. I was able to get meds - without seeing my dr, just describing symptoms on the phone - diflucan - and the NP at my dd's ped gave us a script for nystatin "in case" she developed it. I knew better and filled the rx and treated us both and got rid of it.

I hope you feel better soon!

@rahlyrah: That I don't know!

I had thrush too, (so buh-bye freezer stash . . . it happened around week 8, and it took almost 3 weeks to clear up, so I was unable to build up a freezer stash before I returned to work at 12 weeks *augh*), and it took about 3 weeks to get rid of it. I know your frustration though because my thrush came just as LO and I were starting to find our groove with BFing. Add this to the infinitely long list of things nobody tells you!

@MsLipGloss: Thank you so much! I don't know much about either. I'm assuming thrush would be easier to treat than staph.

@rahlyrah: Your OB should be willing to treat you even if your LO is asymptomatic . . . . just be aware that you will need a 7 day prescription for Diflucan (typically this is what is prescribed) and not the regular 3 day prescription. Believe it or not, not all of them know this. :/

@MsLipGloss: I'm assuming my OB would test for both. Either way, I hope they can clear it up! I am fed up with all of these BFing issues!

@rahlyrah: I disagree with your LC. You can have thrush without your LO (1) also having thrush, and/or (2) your LO having thrush but being asymptomatic.

Has this happened to anyone? It is suspected that B's staph infection was transmitted to my nipples. The LC believes that factors in to my nipple pain and burning/itching sensation even when I am not nursing. Apparently, I have many of the symptoms of thrush, but she doesn't think it is thrush because B's mouth looks normal.

I have an appointment with my OB on Thursday, but would like to learn more about it before then.
