@mrs green grass: I'm going to ask about the possibility of Christmas break at our appointment at the end of October. I'll ask how feasible this is.

@purplepumps: I appreciate your realistic perspective (not a downer ;) )! Your points really hit home for me.

@fliegepilzhut: Good points about the stress factor. Thinking about making the 2 hour drive during the winter also makes me nervous :(

@lindsayinny: I hope the next IUI does the trick for you! We're also consdiering the deductible issue too with trying to squeeze it in over Christmas break. Will keep you all posted after our appointment at the end of October!

@shootingstar: Unfortunately we're in a really rural area. This is the closest clinic with an RE :(

But, there is a hospital about 20 minutes away from work, I can ask about logitics of remote monitoring in October. Thanks!

@mrswin: No flex/planning period :( I actually teach college students. Unfortunately, my teaching schedule is really spread out (teaching really early in the morning and then mid afternoon). So, it would be hard to make it to an appointment without canceling classes.

@fliegepilzhut: I'm following your story off and on! I admit I get a bit behind with hb posts now that school is back in session. Best of luck to you my dear!

@sapphire: Thank you!

@ineebee and @kentuckygirl: We've been ttc for awhile now (getting close to the 2 year mark). I think I'm also feeling that pressure to make something happen....ugh it's so hard.

I appreciate everyone's support so much!

I also had to drive 2 hours to my IVF clinic. It was tough but I also could not have waited. Part of my rush was that we had already been TTC 2 years and at my age (38), I didn't feel I had time to wait. Fortunately my job was pretty flexible, but only you can judge how you will manage with your job. Good luck, I know this is a hard decision.

Like others have said, I would find out more from the clinic to see what an actual week with three or more appointments would look like with your work schedule and talk it over openly with DH.

If it were ME, I would put it off. I did put it off for a year, but because of insurance purposes (current insurance wouldn't cover it, but I knew that DH's next job's insurance would). For me, I didn't want to make the baby my #1 priority until I was pregnant. I had done that in the past with my IUIs, and it made me miserable. I handled it badly, and I'm glad I had a chance to breathe and wait to do IVF in the summer.

I'd probably wait because the schedule doesn't sound doable, but you could talk to your clinic about timing to see how realistic it would be. Good luck!

Satellite/remote monitoing can be pretty awesome! And timing things over a shorter break may work perfectly...but also can be tricky, because you can never know ahead of time exactly how long you will stim. (BTW-- my situation is/was similar to yours, as I'm unexplained with a crazy job and an educator husband...and my clinic is really far away. ) It's a tough decision. Best of luck, whatever you decide! :goodluck:

@ShootingStar: That's a good point! Often monitoring can be done somewhere else and they communicate with your office.

@winter_wonder: That's a tough decision. I had 5 monitoring appointments before retrieval (stimmed for 9 days) and I couldn't imagine trying to go somewhere 2 hours away from my office. I understand not wanting to wait but like another pp suggested what about over Christmas break? Do you have a flex/planning period during the day?

Is there any way you could go to another clinic closer to where you work? I don't think I could have managed all the monitoring necessary in just my medicated TI cycle if I had to get to the clinic and then get to my office 2 hours away afterwards.

I didn't vote because that's a hard one... We're in the middle of IUI cycle #3 and if this doesn't work we will have another consultation to discuss where to go from here (I presume IVF if we're ready versus continuing IUI). If it comes to it, I'm torn between getting it done this year while the deductible is satisfied OR waiting until the new year with a new deductible but more flex spending money available. Good luck with whatever you decide and definitely let us/me know!!

Basically if you're in a position to take a number of half days, do it...but also ask what time monitoring appts are. My place only did them in the morning.

Not to be the Devil's advocate here...but with unexplained, there is always a chance that you might unexpectedly become pregnant (even after 1-2years of trying). And I'm a believer in staying relaxed as much as possible during a cycle (I don't know to what extent, or if, this influences your outcome, but it sure does feel better). So, if work is crazy right now and the travel is an additional burden, it makes more sense to me to wait until summer, when you're more likely to have a (relatively) positive experience.

And not to be a total downer, but it's entirely possible for an IVF cycle not to work, and some doctors require a full natural cycle before trying again, so... even if you waited for summer.. in the worst case it didnt work... it may be tough to squeeze another in so I vote why wait. If you really want it to happen, you have to make it the priority.

There will be 3-4 monitoring appointments during the stim phase, and one prior to starting. I can't imagine how that would fit into the work schedule if it's 2 hours away. However, if it's come to IVF, I can't imagine waiting until next summer. If I could take the days off for the appointment or somehow manage it, I'd probably start now since I'm impatient. But if the work schedule is not flexible, it seems like it would have to wait.

Tough! I did mine during school but I could make it to most appts during my prep/lunch. I had appts 4 of the last 5 days before retrieval. It was tough! What about Christmas break?

What would you do in this situation?

I have unexplained IF. We've had 3 failed IUIs. We're trying to decide about when to move to IVF. Our doctor is fine with us moving any time now.

I'm so stressed with work right now and can't imagine fitting in all of the appointments (our clinic is 2 hrs. from work). I'm tempted to wait for the summer before starting IVF since I work in education and will have a more flexible schedule. And, the clinic is only an hour and 15 mins. from our house.

But, I also hate the thought of waiting. Ugh....I also sort of feel like my work has always taken the "front seat" and I want to focus on starting a family.

What would you do?!
