@regberadaisy: yeah those aren't late times at all. My parents are in their 60s and don't go to bed till 11 at least.

I think 7 is good.

I think 7pm is a reasonable start time not to serve dinner, especially if you have appetizers. It is always helpful to specify on the invite what type of food/drink/bar etc people can expect, regardless of timing.

8pm!

Although dancing and drinking makes people hungry so have lots of food regardless

@regberadaisy: these aren't stodgy older people. If the start time was any earlier the dance floor would probably be empty given there would still be light outside.

@regberadaisy: really? My ILs are in their 60s and would have no problem with a 7 or 8pm party.

I think 7.

7 sounds good to me! i wouldn't expect dinner (i never would for an adult birthday party unless explicitly stated!) and you can make it more clear on the invitation too!

Uh... I think all those start times are too late for that age group. I think do a afternoon dance party! Maybe like a 2pm start time?

My mom has a milestone birthday coming up and I want to do something special for her. I'm toying with a ladies brunch or luncheon OR dance party. I think she would enjoy a dance partya bit more because she's single and typically laments she doesn't have a dance partner at other functions. Now, at her own party everyone would feel it's okay to dance with her. A dance party triples the guest list and to keep costs somewhat reasonable I would like to serve just sips and snacks. How early could I start the party for people not to expect a full meal? The oldest guests will be in their late 60s.

Sips & Snacks: would lean on the heavier side of appetizers with something like a mashed potato bar or ham & biscuits bar

Full Meal: I'd keep it simple with crowd pleasing soul food.
