Use technology to keep you accountable. Set an alarm to make you take a walk. Get a pedometer if you think it might help. Write down what you eat on paper or in your phone (don't pay attention to calories or anything if you don't have time - the act of writing down what you eat helps you make better decisions). Start an online meal plan that does all the planning work for you.

Like pp have said, small steps. You don't gain weight overnight, you won't lose it overnight. Take your time. Be patient.

It works for me to eat "clean" (eg no processed food, no white carbs, no sugar) during the week and have a freer weekend. That way I dont feel completely depressed about what I am giving up :) Good luck! Not TTC yet and trying to drop 5 pounds before we do, myself ... !

We started back on the healthy path by simply not bring junk or processed foods back from the grocery. That way we finished what we had at home (so no wasted food) and just bought whole/clean foods. I treated myself to some new cookbooks and I enjoy cooking healthier options to our staple foods.

As far as excerise goes I am working on it. We try to go for a walk 3 times a week, but if it doesn't happen oh well.

Agree with blackbird. Food first. Then get in exercise whenever you can. Run with LO in their stroller. Do squats while they're playing. Blogilates, Erin Motz, and Bexlife have great free workouts on YouTube and some are only the length of a song.

Also, work on making meals ahead, doing crockpot stuff, etc.

I'm trying to plan for the upheaval in my life when LO comes along because health/fitness is so crucial for my physical AND mental health.

Baby steps. I'm finding it hard to get back to where I was pre-preg, when I said I wanted to be in the best shape of my life. Maybe try to tackle one meal a week? Say that next week, you are going to cook healthy dinners. Also, prep as much as you can on the weekends.

Could you try one meal at a time? I know it's super daunting to try to change all your go-to meals all at once. Once you've reestablished your breakfast routine you can work on lunch, then snacks, then dinner.

I should probably take my own advice... haha ;)

My first step is always to stop having dessert each night, which basically translates to cutting out ice cream. I always hate the idea, but once we've stopped, I don't even miss it anymore. Which is insane since it's one of my favorite foods! Once ice cream is cut out (only once on the weekends or something like that) the difference in the way my pants fit is big enough for me to take another step!

Start wherever you can! Since you've been healthy in the past, you know where your "low-hanging fruit" is... sugar? Cheetos? What's one change you can make this week to cut something out. Go for one walk. Eat one piece of fruit instead of something crappy. You have to do what's going to work for YOU :) Big changes sit on the shoulders of small changes, so start by doing whatever you can that doesn't require thinking and build on it.

Start small. Don't make ALL THE CHANGES at once. Just pick one thing to focus on for a month and then add something else in. Otherwise it'll be too much and you won't succeed. Pick food first. Throw away the junk, don't buy anymore, and work on eating better. After a few weeks, you'll feel a lot better and that'll motivate you to stick with it. Add in some exercise in a month. Take smaller steps so that it's more sustainable.

Looking for some tips and advice! In 2012 DH and I started clean eating (mostly. We still had dairy and bread and stuff...just picked cleaner, less or not at all processed foods) and working out regularly. We lost a lot of weight and overall felt so amazing. I said I would never go back.

Cue pregnancy and backsliding for both of us. I could hardly eat anything in the first tri and it all went downhill from there. Now we are definitely back in our old ways. It's worse now because I'm aware of the junk I'm putting in my body and how bad my health is. I want to be healthy again, not just lose weight. I want to set an example for T. I want him to have great eating habits and be very active. But I can't tell him to do that when I'm eating Cheetos.

I barely have time to think anymore, let alone make major changes. When it was just DH and I we did a complete 180 overnight and stuck with it. Making a huge change all at once won't work this time. We will get quickly overwhelmed.

What are some good ways to start off? I'm just so ready to feel good about the food I put in my body and not feel like a sad sack of potatoes.
