We bought the soft tipped spoons, and just serve LO out of our glass bowls. When she is more "finger-food" aged; I'll buy some plastic bowls for her. Whatever plastic items you buy, just make sure they are BPA free.

For making the puree; if you want to steam and don't have a steaming device; you can just put a colander into a large stock pot with a lid - works just the same as steaming trays/gadgets.

I prefer to roast some veggies because they get better flavor that way; but that's up to you!

I just use our food processor to puree batches of LO's food, and then freeze in ice cube trays and pop into Zip-lock freezer bags to store them.

Things like avocado I obviously don't freeze; just mash up really well when its dead ripe.

We don't like plastic or plasticy coated type bibs, so we just use some big cotton ones; and have not needed a splat mat yet. I do usually have a damp washcloth on hand when I feed LO purees so I can wipe her off as we go and keep everything clean.

We use more spoons than I expected. So lots of soft tipped spoons... LO isn't particular about any kind. We also have lots of small plastic bowls. We use them now, but they'll be really handy when LO is older and can feed herself snacks.

I may be the only one, but I don't like any kind of laminated or plastic bib. I prefer bibs that are absorbent because they're less messy for us. My MIL made a ton for us out of dish towels (so they're large enough), but you can buy large cloth bibs too.

We have a few sippy cups, but I expect it will be a few months before she gets the hang of that.

You could buy a splat mat, or you could get a cheaper picnic tablecoth (like the red, gingham oilcloth).

We recently started solids and also like the baby bjorn bibs. I would recommend buying special spoons, and we also bought the oxo storage cubes. Definitely think some type of freezer friendly storage containers are necessary.

http://www.amazon.com/OXO-Tot-Freezer-Storage-Containers/dp/B006YTW612/ref=sr_1_7?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1353699362&sr=1-7&keywords=oxo+storage+containers

We're trying to introduce the sippy cup but LO hasn't gotten the hang of it quite yet. We have the lollacup (was a gift) but I'm thinking about trying a different one too. Good luck and have fun! I've really enjoyed introducing my LO to solid foods!

We have glass bowls so I didn't buy any of the special ones. I did buy spoons. I already have a food processor and if I want to keep the floor clean, I lay a towel down. No straw cups because DS didn't learn how to drink out of a straw until 9 months old. I'll probably buy DD sippy cups by 8 months but for now she's breastfed so I don't have to offer her anything else. Oh, the Baby Bjorn bib is great too!!

I really liked the baby bjorn bibs too. They make great food catchers. You might also want to get something for freezing baby food? Alot of mamas use ice cube trays. I like the Beaba trays personally. But they are kinda pricey. I bought 3 of them and used them religiously for months. I still use them now to make applesauce for my toddler.

I went out and bought plastic bowls and cups because we didn't have any! You don't have to spend a lot on these at all (I went to ikea and the dollar store).

For spoons, we used Avent spoons. http://www.amazon.com/Philips-Toddler-Weaning-Spoons-Months/dp/B003Y732IS. I liked these a lot because they weren't too deep and perfect for a baby who is just getting used to the spoon. Now we use vital baby spoons.

My favourite sippy cup is the Nuby. http://www.target.com/p/nuby-no-spill-super-spout-2-handle-cup-neutral-4-pack/-/A-13696376#prodSlot=large_1_1
This one doesn't require the baby to suck really hard to get out liquid because there's no valve. My LO learned super quickly with this cup. A lot of people go straight to a straw cup but I think the learning curve is the same for both.

We don't use a splat mat because we have a dog :).

I didn't make a lot of our puréed foods because we don't eat a lot of veggies that babies typically eat (carrots, green beans, etc.). We eat a lot sweet potato and squash and would just do BLW with those foods. Bananas and avocados I would just mash up when they're super ripe and I buy unsweetened applesauce. Sorry I'm not much help in this area! I wouldn't think you'd need to buy a baby food cooker if you have a steamer and a blender or food processor though.

Following on from the thread on what to feed your baby when starting with food, I am wondering what equipment you need? LO is 4.5 months so i'll be starting slowly in the next month and want to get prepared. There is so much stuff on the market I get totally confused - do I need special spoons and bowls, sippy cups, straw cups, steamer, food processor, splat mat (not even sure what that is)?

So please let me know what's been essential feeding gear for your LO? Would love to hear your recommendations!
