Thanks ladies! I think we will do a small gift for each teacher - definitely want to make sure we start things off on a positive note :)

@CakeLady: I think something small is good, ntohign over the top. Even if it's just a cute coffee mug and a $5 GC to Starbucks, I would say $10 range is sufficient for each teacher (at least in my area) I threw together a Trader Joe's gift basket for each teacher, around $35 bucks and we've been going for over 2 years!

I would. Our LO started in September and was the only new kid in class. He had a very rough adjustment, with lots of tears and they were so patient. I got them gift cards after that first week of school just to thank them for being so kind and welcoming him. Just $10 from Starbucks, but they were so appreciative!

@ShootingStar: You don't have to, but I think it is common practice to give teachers/daycare providers/nannies a holiday gift of some sort.

I like Yellowbird's idea. The teachers will be doing alot to get your LO comfortable in those first 6 days, so a little something is nice. Even homemade Christmas cookies would work.

DD started daycare in the beginning of December and they had a 2 week long holiday closure but we still did giftcards and cards for the teachers and contributed to the parent group's annual drive thing.. I didn't know the "norm" and wanted to make sure the teachers felt appreciated taking on a new baby cuz I knew it'd be a rough transition (she hated the bottle) :( especially with the vacation mixed in.. I think we gave her main teacher about $40 and her other teachers $20-25. And one morning we brought in coffee and donuts.

DS is starting daycare next week, right before the holidays. He will only be there 6 days before the Christmas break. Should we get his teachers a holiday gift? If yes, I'll likely do gift cards - what amount might be appropriate?
