I have worked in a child care center for over 5 years. I ran an infant room for 5 years and have dealt a lot with babies transitioning. I definitely agree with Thehistoryofus to bring a blanket or lovie from home. Also, it can be super helpful to her caregivers to make sure they know what your child is like, what helps comfort her, what her favorite things to play with are, her schedule, etc. I was always grateful when parents had some of these things written down so that I had something to reference throughout the day if I wasn't sure about something. Also, if you can, give enough time on your first days when you drop off that you can spend a few extra minutes with you LO as you drop off. Help her get used to the setting a little, introduce her to her caregiver and other children, and maybe help her get engaged in play with something. Sometimes it can be tempting to slip out quickly if she is playing with something because you don't want to upset her, but we always stressed to parents the importance of saying goodbye and telling your LO that you love her and will be back soon so it's not like you just disappeared.

Good luck and I am sure your LO will adjust well after a few days!

@Thehistoryofus: LO is on a special diet so I'll definitely be packing her lunch and snacks, but along those lines, I can pack her favorite foods and beverages :)

@Red: oh man that stinks. I would Ben think about sending food that first week. A pb&j from someone else isn't the same as a pb&j like mom makes it.

@Thehistoryofus: It's an in-home daycare and as luck would have it, they are on vacation this week so there's no chance of bringing her in before Monday. :(.

The security objects and picture are great ideas. Thanks!

Any way you could at least take her by once or twice this week just so she can meet the teachers and see the facility? Even if you don't leave her, I know our center loves drop ins like this.

I always suggest to bring lots of security items for the teachers. Blanket from home (even if they provide sheets), their favorite sippy cup, etc. Even a picture of mommy and daddy can help.

I just accepted a FT job and will be starting on Monday, which means that my LO will be starting daycare on Monday as well.

She's 20 months and has only been separated from me or my husband > 6 hrs once and that was with my in-laws who she loves. I know she'll adjust to daycare fine but I'm anxious about the first few days, My original plan was to spend half-days with her at the day care facility to get her used to the new environment but I won't be able to due to scheduling conflicts.

Do you have any tips on easing the transition or suggestions on how to prep her? and me?
