Baby Mum Mums are good first finger foods because they're big enough to grasp but melt in spit. :)

We also do this baby mesh feed bag. DS can suck on it and get flvors/juices out, but the mesh keeps all the solid food inside. It's also great for teething, if you put frozen fruit in it.

Once she was able to actually eat the puree and not push it back out of her mouth we started with finger foods. We started with the happy baby puffs and then also let her do some BLW at home (she had purees at home).

I don't have any great advice because we haven't started solids (we're starting next week when LO is 6 months), but I'll pass on something my girlfriends have said:
Remember that gagging is not the same as choking. The gag reflex is further forward in a baby's mouth than in an older child/adult's in order to protect them from choking. If they gag it's not that big a deal and they usually aren't distressed by it, it's just their body's way of keeping them safe.
I'm sure it's still scary, but my friends said it helps to remind yourself of the above.
Good luck!
PS We're planning to do BLWing and start with avocado slices.

We just started cereal with our LO. She is doing pretty good with it, but REALLY wants to do it on her own! I looked at getting her rice cake things that are supposed to be made for baby's that are just starting solids, but she had just a tiny mushy piece of it and kind of choked swallowing it, so it really freaked me out! Her dr recommended something like grahm crackers, but i'm scared she would choke on those too...

What you given your LO to feed themselves when they were just starting to eat?
