Our only issue was they started pooing more often at night for a while after we started solids. So we would go in after they started crying to do a "smell check" and the would proceed with normal sleep training.

I would go ahead and do both, but when you do checks maybe check the diaper too. DS would poop in the middle of the night sometimes after doing solids. Anytime he wakes up now in the middle of the night I double check his diaper (though its usually clean).

We tried rice cereal and oatmeal at 5 months and LO hated it. She would always spit most of it out. I tried for a week then I went to purées and she loved the purées. We started with 1 meal a day for 1 month at either for breakfast or lunch depending on how late we slept in. I would think that any issues with food should appear soon afterwards. I found LO was allergic to avocadoes within 30 minutes of her eating it. She loved it but broke out in hives afterwards. Any foods that made her gassy would make her poop almost immediately.

We did both at the same time. We fed LO her solids for "breakfast" only for awhile and have had no nighttime issues.

I'd probably space it out a little. C started pooping overnight too, though that's the only issue she had when we started, no discomfort. Get ready- the poops smell something awful :(

We were in your exact situation and everything turned out fine. We sleep trained for a week at 5.5 months and then started solids the week after, only an ounce or two at breakfast. LO stopped pooping overnight at two months old so we never had that problem. This was my favorite time in infancy, he slept through the night and ate like a champ and wasn't that mobile yet - enjoy!!

I think I would wait. DD immediately had issues with constipation upon introducing solids. She would cry and strain and seemed just miserable. I felt comfortable letting her cry when I knew nothing was wrong, but when she was in pain, I didn't want to leave her alone.

Sorry I'm dissenting and saying wait! LO was EBF and while we did blW and purees, he pooped overnight a few times until he adjusted.

I agree with PPs. If you start with breakfast then you should be fine! B never had any tummy issues from solids (although he wasn't EBF).

Yea, I think if you do a "breakfast" then you won't have to worry about digestive problems in the evenings. Then, the two should eventually sort themselves out!

Eta: I also started off with things that I knew would be easy for him to digest, like apples and pears. We skipped cereals too.

I would do both if you fed her meal mid day, then there is time to digest before bed.

But if your not comfortable with doing both then I'd sleep train first.

LO will be 6 months tomorrow. She has her 6-month checkup on Wednesday. Assuming we get the ok from the ped we're planning to start sleep training next weekend (Ferber). But we were also planning to start solids next weekend. I think we're going to skip oatmeal/rice cereal and go straight to purees.

My question is: should we delay starting solids a week and just do sleep training first? When you started solids did your baby have any digestive issues? M has only ever had breastmilk. I guess I just worry that I won't be able to tell if she's crying because of the sleep training or crying because of an upset stomach, though I can't imagine the tiny amount of purees she'll get in the beginning would cause that. WWYD?
