I really wanted a baby food maker but we didn't do purees for all that long. If I do make homemade stuff I just microwave frozen veggies and use a little mini food processor.

Eta: This is pretty close to the one I use. It's great, purees really quickly and not a lot of cleanup - http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0000645YM/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1412549184&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40#

I loved our Beaba Babycook! We were gifted a Baby Bullet I never used. I just didn't want to bother with the separate pieces. I only wished I had gotten the Babycook Pro to make more at a time. But it's total hindsight, because my 1+ y/o still only wanted to eat purees, where as my 9 month old niece has basically never wanted purees. She basically only wants BLW since 6months.

I would wait to buy until you start and know if baby will even eat purées. We do BLW but did try purées a few times for texture and she wanted nothing to do with them (not even applesauce!) She will eat any "real" food she can mash with her gums though!!

We bought a baby food maker and used it maybe twice. We ended up doing baby led weaning instead!

Most of the time we just use a fork to mash things up. We have a stick blender with a mini food processor attachment that we use occasionally. I was grosses out by the thought of blended meat so when we introduced chicken we used the slow cooker and then just minced up the results very finely.

I cooked fresh, because we didn't have freezer space. For that, I loved the Beaba. I would even use it to steam veggies fur my husband and I.

I just steamed on the stove and puréed foods in a normal food processor. I froze everything using a silicone brownie mold and then stored everything in ziplocks. I had a friend who used the reusable pouches and she liked them.

I used our Magic Bullet after either steaming or roasting items. The other thing I did was buy the Stage 1 purees in the pouches (one of each kind) for our LO to try...that way if he had a reaction or hated it, I didn't waste my time and energy making a bunch of that food.

I have the Beaba and while I did like it, it ended up getting mold in it really quickly. Now I just steam on the stove and use a Magic Bullet to purée!

I used my regular baby bullet and froze in Oxo Tot freezer tray...it is the BEST tray out there, the cubes pop out so easily.
I then put them in freezer zip lock bags and in the appropriate container (I had a containers in my freezer for fruit, veggies and meats so it was easy to grab what you needed at meal times)

For non-frozen purées I used the Oxo tot Baby Blocks...now that we are passed purées I am still using those daily for her daycare lunches. They are the perfect size for small portions of cut up food!

@ctownmacaron: I would just steam stuff on the stove top and then blend in a Magic Bullet I already had. I liked to freeze single item cubes (like just prunes, just peas, just carrot) and then blend together at meal time to get different combos. Or mash in banana or avocado.

I used these trays to freeze:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007CS4EU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I love using these containers to feed solids on the go (still use them at 16 mo):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0052TT6GI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

We used the cuisinart baby food maker!

http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-BFM-1000-Maker-Bottle-Warmer/dp/B009L1VWCO

Makes a good amount (to freeze for later) and super easy to clean. I also liked how it looks like a "normal" kitchen appliance.

We froze in the oxo containers/trays.

Hello! I still have a while until my DS starts solids, but I've been starting to look around to prepare. What are you must have food prep/eating items?? I've been eyeballing the Beaba Babycook pro because I like the idea of being able to cook and prep the food all in one. I'm also considering the Infantino squeeze system/pouches. What about recipes? Good books or websites? Thanks!
