I'd start a walking program. Do you have a Fitbit or something? If you can, go at a pace where you get your heart rate up and actually start to feel like you are doing some work
I'd also add in 1-2x per week some Pilates or gentle core stuff/yoga. A lot can be done in sidelying and on hands and knees.

Thanks all! I'm going to start walking and just found a prenatal yoga class nearby to try. I've never done prenatal yoga / am not big into yoga in general but am definitely open to it because so many seem to love it!

I stared doing prenatal yoga around that point of my second pregnancy and loved it! I’d never liked yoga before but it felt so, so good, and helped during labor too

Im also twenty weeks and have been walking for 20-25 minutes most nights after the kids are in bed and I definitely think it helps! I’m trying to get ahead of a probable GD diagnosis and the exercise is definitely helping my numbers and I’ve only gained 2-3 pounds so far, I’m also trying to not grow another ten pounder!

The beauty of walking is that it also helps with optimal foetal positioning which will hopefully result in a smoother and faster birth.

I also was unable to exercise for the first half of my pregnancy, then started a tiny bit after that. I incorporated about 30 min of walking every day plus a daily regimen of squats and a couple other little exercises. If you feel up for it, I would recommend prenatal pilates - there's a series free on YouTube I did in my first pregnancy where it's separated into five 10-minute workouts so you can do as much or as little as you feel like.

(I feel like the squats have been very helpful as I've gotten heavier - having the muscle strength in my lower body has been crucial for my continued mobility as this baby gets bigger and bigger).

My mantra is: something is always better than nothing! And isn't exercise supposed to help keep blood pressure at a healthy level? If you feel you can handle more than walking, maybe go on the treadmill with a bit of an incline? Yoga is always fantastic, too. Good luck!!

Walking, yoga or a barre class were great for me! I’m about to walk into a barre class for the first time in months at 19 weeks! 😂

Following. Currently 12 weeks and any bit of purposeful exercise makes me throw up (I can luckily still get in 10000 steps because of my job). Hoping to be able to exercise once I get into the second trimester.

Adding any exercise will be beneficial, whether you are pregnant or not! An added 30 minutes of walking is great. I was too overwhelmed to add anything new when I was pregnant with DD2, so I just walked whenever I could. I’m a runner so I literally felt like my muscles were atrophying, so I would also add squats and lunges when I could.

I bought a fitbit and made sure to walk 3 miles a day, and definitely found it helped with the aches and pains. I also really enjoyed prenatal yoga.

I did a lot of walking when I was pregnant - no idea if it was that beneficial but my OB recommended it. Another non-intense workout I enjoyed was 10 Minute Solution - Prenatal Pilates. If I'm remembering correctly there are 5 different 10 minute segments so I would just select and do 3 in a row. I bought the DVD but I'm pretty sure you can find the videos on YouTube.

So I've been a bit of a sloth these first 20 weeks of pregnancy in terms of exercise. To be fair I've done a bunch of projects around my house that have taken up most of my time. But now that things are mostly in order I have more free time and feel like I should start doing SOMETHING active!

Any recommendations? Is just adding in walking 30 minutes a day really going to help that much? My last pregnancy my blood pressure went crazy towards the end so I don't think I should do anything very intense, but I'd really like to do SOMETHING!
