@Mae: Not every time, probably more often during the day. We've never been able to do a dream feed! Not only will he totally clamp his mouth shut if he's not awake, but he tends to choke if he's a little sleepy when he eats.

My LOs started to reject bottles around the 1-2 month mark. I had to switch to a different brand and all was well again!

Well I can rule out the faster flow nipple. Tried that just now and he choked and refused to eat any more. Someone just tell me this passes someday.

@spaniellove: ped wasn't sure it is reflux because a lot of times she won't even attempt the bottle or drink anything before getting angry. also she doesn't projectile vomit, and she never cries right after eating. Or really hardly any time except when she's overtired or I'm trying to feed her. So who knows. Hopefully our upcoming testing and appointments will shed some light.

@loveisstrange: @MrsRcCar: I've tried the level 2 nipple a few times and it didn't end well but will try it again tomorrow!

@Mae: That really does sound like reflux! During a bad feeding the noises progress from loud swallows to gagging to screaming/crying/refusing the bottle, and my ped insists that all the noise is his esophagus burning from the acid.

Well if you've been following my saga-- bottle refusal is our main problem and it just started at 2.5 months. Her refusal comes in various forms. Sometimes she outright screams when I pull the bottle out or try to give it to her and won't even try to latch. Sometimes though (about 50/50) she clearly wants to latch on and she will and will suck 2-3 times then will push the bottle out with her tongue. Or will sort of push the nipple back and forth with her tongue and just refuse to suck after that. I pull the bottle out and she cries. I put it back in and she sucks 2-3 times then starts pushing it out/whining again. It's like she really wants to eat but just doesn't want to eat THAT or something (but she does it regardless of breast milk or formula or which bottle we use).

But I know she is perfectly capable of latching and eating well because when she's asleep I can give her a bottle and she sucks it down no problem, no dribbling even!

She also will gag sometimes, or seem like she's swallowing really hard. And she spits up a fair amount.

We don't have our answer yet though. The pediatrician said it seems to her that she's in pain while eating but we don't know why. My gut tells me she does have reflux and we either don't have the right meds, or she also has a dairy allergy that is messing with her tummy.

I hope he doesn't keep this up for you though bc food refusal is so stressful!

N would do this when it was time to level up as it were on a nipple. I also found he preferred the born free bottles over everything else I tried. Hope you find a solution soon.

Maybe you need to go up to a faster nipple? Avent are faster flow that Dr B's, generally, so it makes sense.

In our ongoing feeding saga, I noticed today that LO is doing something weird with bottle nipples. He's definitely hungry, but he'll slowly spit out the nipple without taking any formula and I can see him pushing it out with his tongue. I realized that he's been doing the same thing with pacifiers for a few weeks - every time I give one to him he either can't suck on it or won't, and his tongue just rolls around it. I had slightly more success switching the bottle from Dr. Browns to Avent Natural, but maybe it was a coincidence.

It also occurred to me that just before each time he's projectile vomited over the past 2 weeks, he's gagged loudly. Does it seem like there's maybe more than just the reflux going on? Is this familiar to anyone?
