Since you aren't used to working out, start with walking. You don't want to send your body into shock or overdue it while pregnant. Or maybe try swimming?

I agree walking is great since your body is not used to it, and swimming is always great for low impact on the joints.

On youtube Tracy Anderson has the pregnancy project where there is a video for every month of pregnancy where she switches up what you do based on what is appropriate and she's pregnant in the videos. Some days it's too much so I pause and come back to it in 10 minutes, just depends on how I'm feeling. I also walk and thought I'd start jogging again once the morning sickness went away, but so far still walking.

There are lots of great free video prenatal strength workouts on youtube! I am planning to combine those with the elliptical and walking once the first tri coma is over. I do better with strength training videos than I do at the gym because I always feel like I'm doing stuff wrong....and I give up a lot quicker at the gym.

@Tanjowen: thanks, great suggestions!

@Mrs. Confetti: thanks! This is baby #2 but my arms are still wimpy and I totally forgot about lugging the car seat around. If you learn anything good in you consult let me know!

ARMS! Babies get heavy fast and building strength is insanely helpful (can't remember if this is baby #1 or 2 for you). Planks are great for core strength and squats are the best exercise you can do to prepare for labor. I am actually doing a one-time consult with a trainer tomorrow for some guidance on what NOT to do, since I don't really remember all the "don'ts" and I feel **Almost** past the sick phase where I can return to the gym.

The treadmill is a great place to start! I also went on nightly walks with my husband until the bitter end :-) . the biggest thing is to just not get overheated. I made sure to rest between activities and drank a ton of water during the workout session.

I would walk on the treadmill for 20 minutes, or do the elliptical, then sit on an exercise ball and do 8 lb arm exercises for about 10 minutes. Or change it up and do leg exercises - gentle squats were really good too. It wasn't much, but just keeping moving helped so much.

So before I got pregnant I was about 15 lbs overweight and not excercising at all. The first trimester I was even more of a sloth because I was so tired! Now that I'm in my second tri I'd really like to start doing SOMETHING but I have no clue where to start. My overall goal in general is to just be more fit.

My work has a small gym so I'm hoping to do something there at lunch.
