Never been in your shoes as I am due in November but I think @Mrs. Twine:'s rec of having your LO help brush the puppy and feel included will help with jealousy. Hopefully by the time baby #2 arrives, your puppy will be less work and you'll be used to a routine with her. I'm sure the help of your mom and DH will help too.

I just wanted to tell you that I understand! We got Freckles, Ellie's dog , when Lorelei was about 10 weeks old. I regretted that SO much. It was just so much work. We actually ended up sending him to a training program. It was expensive, but it was the best thing we could have done. When he came back, he was a different dog almost, and we were finally able to have him out spending time with us rather than in his kennel so much of the day. I've been planning to write a post on it.

I say let other people help you as much as possible. Are there ways to include your daughter in some of the dog care? I know she's younger, but Lorelei likes to help "brush" Freckles or take him for a walk. Maybe if you can frame it so she feels like she is helping you it will alleviate some of the jealousy. :)

I love love love my new puppy. She's very sweet and good with LO..... but she's a puppy. I'm used to having an older dog who doesn't require so much attention. All my pup wants is to be loved on and petted, all the time. Which would be awesome if I had that kind of time, but LO is already pretty jealous of her so I'm trying to balance them both. And in just 5 months I will be adding another baby to the mix. I'm pretty terrified.

I would never give my puppy up (unless she was causing harm to someone of course), she's our family now and we love her. Luckily my mom loves dogs and if it's anything like when LO is a newborn she will come over a lot to walk her and take her to the dog park. She paid more attention to our dog then to LO because she didn't want the dog to get jealous :)

Anyone else have a lot going on when the new baby came? How did you handle balancing attention and jealousy?
