We had this plate :
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006S8Y68A/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_sTirtb1NWFMM7

It's only the second one we tried but it has a very low profile which I think makes it harder for them to get their fingers under. The tab to release is also away from them so she never knew it was there. It was the second and last baby plate we bought!

I don't think there are any kid-proof ones! We have a boon one that is good sometimes, but sometimes not. I have just learned to keep one hand on the plate.

@travellingbee: Initially yes, but my little guy must be a plate/bowl ninja with super strength. Actually, what he quickly figured out is that he could slide the plate towards him and over the edge of the island (we use the inglesina fast chair) and it would break the suction.

This is the one that probably works the best: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006S8Y68A/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 but he just pulls on the blue flappy part.

I know people liked these bowls but they suction doesn't even work. I don't know if that's b/c we put them in the dishwasher, even though it states that they're top shelf safe. http://www.amazon.com/Stay-Put-Suction-Bowl-Set-3/dp/B004XCRAM2/ref=sr_1_2?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1396988331&sr=1-2&keywords=munchkin+bowls+suction

@MUI831: Thanks for the tip. You tried the kind with suction and they didn't work well?

Whichever one you go with, just make sure that the surface you are sticking it to is perfectly clean. Otherwise it won't get a good seal. I don't have a great recommendation as my little guy always managed to pop up just about every plate and bowl we tried. We just have to watch him. He mostly has grown out of that phase. It's so frustrating.

Has anyone bought a plate that your little one has difficulty picking up and throwing? We want to start introducing plates but right now he throws everything. :bummed:
