@mrbee: That doesn't seem too terrible, honestly, as long as she doesn't mind it, right?

@looch: After I read books to my daughter, she takes some time to settle down (usually she likes to "read" one of her books for a while). During that time, sometimes I pop onto Hellobee or check my email. She doesn't seem to notice or mind - she gets really into her books. But I feel like what I should be doing is reading her more books or singing her a lullaby!

I absolutely use my phone during bedtime otherwise I fall asleep- don't finish chores, don't have time to myself, wake up groggy in the early morning. The kids don't mind though- I let them choose the sound of the white noise on my phone, then they lie down and I read while tapping backs.

Right now yes and if I'm nursing DD to sleep for a while, I get soo sleepy too in the dark with white noise! If I rocked her to sleep then usually I'm only sitting next to her on my phone after.

@mrbee: what are you doing with the phone during the routine? I don't even look at my phone when my son's around because he will want to watch videos or call someone!

I lay in bed with my son and sometimes, I do fall asleep. I don't fight it, if my body is tired, I sleep. But we only have one kid, so it's not like my husband is battling it out with another kid in another room, you know?

Our bedtime routine is pretty simple and doesn't include laying down with lo so it would be hard to fall asleep, but I definitely yawn a lot during story time!!

We start bath at 6:15 and are usually in the dark nursery by 6:40 or so? So I'm not too sleepy yet, unless it was a very rough day! But it's still light out by the time we leave the nursery now, which is really nice. We both use our phones at bedtime after stories are done, while the kids are nursing to sleep (and when I hand the sleeping baby over to DH to rock while I nurse the other). I generally give myself a pass to use my phone while nursing to sleep, as long as DH has the other baby occupied. I am trying to be more conscious of phone usage other times of day though! They get way too interested in the phone these days. They think grandma (who we FaceTime with) is on it all the time!

My DH usually falls asleep and I don't understand how - I don't lay with them until they fall asleep and so the bedtime routine requires me to be awake

Brush teeth
potty
read books
climb in bed
one bed time story
kiss goodnight
I leave

No, DS is such a good sleeping, and our routine has never been long. We usually snuggle for 15-20 minutes and watch a short tv show, brush his teeth, read a few books, then he goes to bed right after. If I had to lie down with him I would definitely fall asleep though.

No, sometimes I am tired, but I never lie down in bed with them so there's no chance of me passing out.

Umm yes. DH usually puts LO to bed, and he falls asleep maybe 40% of the time, unless there is something he wants to do or watch after putting him down. And the nights I put him to sleep I'd say I fall asleep with him 60% of the time, ha. I'd like to say it's because I'm pregnant, but I fell asleep with him before too.

It's tough because we lie in bed together with a blanket and dim lights and read books and sing songs. Perfect sleep conditions ;)

I've been making a bit effort to be present with the kids, and felt really good about it! But lately, I've let some old bad habits slip in... especially during the bedtime routine. Gotta put down the phone during bedtime and really just enjoy that snuggle time.

Bedtime is the hardest for me, because I get so sleepy and worry that I'm going to fall asleep. The phone definitely keeps me awake, so I use it as a crutch.

Do you ever have problems staying awake during the bedtime routine?
