I didn't go to the main campus but satellite campuses. First year was about 2 hours from home and then I transferred to campus closer to home about an hour away. I lived on campus so it was a nice to be independent from my parents. </p> <p>I'm happy with where I went. I had smaller class sizes because I was at a smaller campus and got more individualized attention. I do wish I went to school out of state but it would have cost me more money. My parents paid for college out of pocket, so there wasn't much I could say about it. We also live on the East coast in a majorly populated area, and there are literally hundreds of colleges in that radius. Parents chose the school, for financial reasons. They paid (less than my private high school!) and I graduated with no debt. I did my first year at a local community college, then moved to New York for a year - worked and took a couple online classes. Moved back home, finished my two year degree at the community college.<br /> Now I'm back at a local school- but I have a family now so it's different :) </p> <p>I AM glad I moved out of state- it was a great experience for me and I would recommend it.</p> <p>I actually have a relative who just put college on hold after her first year so she could be an au pair abroad. I am so glad I had that experience. </p> <p>I will encourage my girls to not be afraid to move away for school, if that's what they want to do. It was great for me. I felt like I was in a different place when I was on campus but I still got to see my parents regularly, which I loved (especially when my mom picked up my laundry!). Part of it is because I decided at the last minute to not go to Marquette and we had never put down housing at my university, and part of it was that I would have to pay for housing myself. I wanted to study abroad instead, so I went to Spain my junior year. I did wish that I lived on campus/out of my house, but I loved not having any debt/loans either.
