I stayed in the state of PA. I didn't go to the main campus but satellite campuses. First year was about 2 hours from home and then I transferred to campus closer to home about an hour away. I lived on campus so it was a nice to be independent from my parents.

I'm happy with where I went. I had smaller class sizes because I was at a smaller campus and got more individualized attention. I do wish I went to school out of state but it would have cost me more money. Since I paid for most of my education through loans and with hardly any help from my parents, I made a good decision.

20 minutes from home. Lived on campus all 4 years. Summer was a required class living on a ship learning to sail (container ship/tanker). I enjoyed my undergrad.

I was given a 2.5 hour radius that I was "allowed" to go to. My parents paid for college out of pocket, so there wasn't much I could say about it. We also live on the East coast in a majorly populated area, and there are literally hundreds of colleges in that radius. Anyway, I chose to go to a state school that was that 2.5 hours away lol It ended up being too far for me anyway, and after I graduated, I moved back to my hometown.

I stayed close to home. Parents chose the school, for financial reasons. They paid (less than my private high school!) and I graduated with no debt. Still only recently decided on a field to stick with, but it all worked out! :)

I didn't do the traditional college route. I did my first year at a local community college, then moved to New York for a year - worked and took a couple online classes. Moved back home, finished my two year degree at the community college.
Now I'm back at a local school- but I have a family now so it's different :)

I AM glad I moved out of state- it was a great experience for me and I would recommend it.

I actually have a relative who just put college on hold after her first year so she could be an au pair abroad. It's great for people like her/me who didn't really know what we wanted at the time and need some space/experience to decide

I will encourage my girls to not be afraid to move away for school, if that's what they want to do. It was such a great experience for me.

ETA: What I can't believe is that my parents just let me drive back and forth between Seattle and LA, all by myself, fresh out of high school! I only did it 3x a year, but wow!

20 minutes away! It was great for me. I felt like I was in a different place when I was on campus but I still got to see my parents regularly, which I loved (especially when my mom picked up my laundry!). It wasn't the town I had lived in all my life, though so that made a difference, and I didn't have a car, so I did mostly stay on campus.

I went to college about a half hour away. There are a million colleges in this area so it isn't unusual for people who grow up here to stick around. I had always planned to go to the West Coast instead but got the guilt trip from my parents. At least I moved from suburbs to city.

I commuted from home, although it took me about an hour into the city on public transit. Part of it is because I decided at the last minute to not go to Marquette and we had never put down housing at my university, and part of it was that I would have to pay for housing myself. I wanted to study abroad instead, so I went to Spain my junior year. I did wish that I lived on campus/out of my house, but I loved not having any debt/loans either. I joined a sorority to help me feel more connected to campus.

ETA: The furthest I could have gone was 3 hours...my parents drew a circle around our house!
