I know at least three people who have had or were post vasectomy babies. I think it's better now, but you really have to keep up with the sperm testing. DH would totally get one... After seeing me carry and birth one kid, by the time we're done, I've totally paid my dues and he'd take one for the team. But I have terrible endometriosis. So, when we decide we're done, I'll have a c section and a hysterectomy for the last baby. I'm really, really looking forward to this and hoping I can basically stay nursing and/ or pregnant until that happens. Endometriosis is no joke!

I got a tubal with my 2nd c-section. I am 1000% ok with never being pregnant again. Also, I lean heavily on DH. I had no interest in him being out of commission for a few days for recovery. The tubal took an extra 5 minutes, and I may have had a tiny bit more soreness this time. Totally worth it for me.

@Mamaof2: Really for the same reason as @lilteacherbee mentioned. While I'm not as young as she is, I always thought I wanted 4. I'm 99% sure we're done with this 3rd one, but hubby says he's 100% done. Which I'm ok with....but if he's the one that's really DONE, he's the one that should make it so. I've put my body through hell for my children and sacrificed through enough changes. He can do this one thing now!

It will definitely be my hubby's turn when we are done having children. If I have to be pregnant and give birth then he can surely deal with a shot and snip down there!

DH volunteered for a vasectomy after our third is born and I'm glad! After going through a m/c, D&C, pregnancy and c-sections (x3), I feel like it's his turn. Plus, I was the one on birth control (the pill) all those years before babies.

@ValentineMommy: @Mamaof2: My OB asked me if I wanted a tubal during my third c-section. I was actually leaning towards yes, but then I thought more about it. I'm only 27, so while I'm pretty confident that this is our last, things could change down the road. She said there is only one doctor within 200 miles of us who will do a tubal reversal and it's often much more expensive, not to mention more invasive, than a vasectomy reversal.

@Mamaof2: I read that....it's more of the principle of the thing really. My body has been through enough. I've had more than a dozen surgeries since my 20's. It's time for hubby to do something! Plus, his is reversible, right? Whereas the tubal is not (or at least, not as easy to reverse)?

I brought this up to DH a few weeks ago and he looked at me like I had just asked him to cut his legs off. I really don't understand why men can be so freaked out about it.

I don't know if he expected me to have it done (which I'm not going to do), or what he was thinking really. He probably wasn't thinking long term, in all honesty.

But yea, even though I'm having a csection (and it'll be my third one), I think I've done and gone through enough. It's up to him to have it done. Or deal with condoms. Lol!

I wouldn't even consider it so it's 100% up to him. I feel like it's going to be one of those things that DH just ignores until there is either another pregnancy, a scare, or is no longer an issue. I am open to one more so the ball is totally in his court on this.

I also worked with a guy a long time ago who had an extreme surprise. Apparently he'd lost one testicle in Vietnam and has a vasectomy for the other. And his wife still got pregnant 😂.

I think there will be a smoke trail (to the urologist) right after baby two is born. No convincing my husband - we are both very on-board with only two kids. BUT I have a fear one sperm will sneak through ... I'd hate to have a tubal though. I wonder if anyone on here has had a child after a Vas.

I got a tubal. Two was always my maximum based on my age. And since I was having a RCS, I told my OB at the first appointment with my second pregnancy to note my file that I'd be having a RCS with tubal. We continued to talk about the decision at every appt.

Mine had it done on a friday, took it easy over the weekend, and stayed off his bike for 7 days. On that 8th day, he went and rode 50 miles, and he was fine. We had to be careful about our older daughter jumping on him for a few weeks, but that was about it. Minimal pain after the first few days, and nothing terrible at any point.

He was not thrilled to have it done, but he totally agreed that I had paid my dues, and it was his turn. Now that it's all done with we're both thrilled.

@erinbaderin: Oh it is definitely less invasive! I'm glad it was easier on him.

@runnerd: he was really sore and tender for the weekend (had it on a Thursday, took Friday off). He took almost 4 days off and I mostly took care of everything. It's been a week now and he's starting to get back to normal but still being careful. He's been able to watch the kids (he had to starting on Monday) but just has to be careful about how he holds the baby and not roughhousing with the older one.

@brownepiano: It can be - my husband took two Advil before the procedure, used peas as an ice pack for the afternoon, and was fine by the next morning. Obviously everybody is different but there's no arguing that it is a much less invasive procedure than a tubal ligation.

My husband volunteered because he doesn't like me on birth control and doesn't want more kids. I was shocked at first but now I'm really glad we went for it. The recovery has been more than 24 hours though. It's not as simple as some people make it sound.

My doctor asked me like three times before my c section whether I wanted a tubal while she was in there but we hadn't had the discussion yet so I declined. A few months later we decided we were done and my husband volunteered to have a vasectomy. I'm always so shocked when husbands refuse (my neighbour's husband said "it would just be easier" if she did it) - it just seems so selfish, being unwilling to deal with 24 hours of pain in favour of leaving it to the woman to deal with.

I think the only way I'd get a tubal would be if I were having a planned c-section and already on the table. But that's a hypothetical-- I'm not going to be ready to make that decision after lo2 is born this winter, and we aren't planning on a c-section anyway (lo1 was vaginal...). I think we'll use non-permanent birth control for awhile after lo2 is born, but then if we decide we're really done, he'll get a vasectomy. In between lo1 and lo2, we used condoms since I was nursing and had supply worries anyway, and being perfectly honest, the condoms were more of a drag for him than me, so it'll be his choice ;) Maaaybe I'll go back on hormonal bcp after lo2, depending on how long I nurse (I nursed until 22 months with lo1) and if I have supply issues again, but honestly I'm kind of done with being the one who has to deal with it.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: lol that he would change his mind when you say you're doing it. ;)
My DH is also very against a VAS but is also the one who wants to be done with our 2 (he has 3). So far I've told him that if he wants to be done, he needs to ensure it doesn't happen again. But once we are 100% sure we're done, we'll obviously have the serious conversation.

A friend of mine got her tubes tide over the Vasectomy because her insurance covered it 100%, where the Vas wasn't covered.

DH goes in less than a month for his vas. I am so excited to close the child-bearing chapter!! I too have made the decision I never want to be pregnant again, and almost want to get a tubal in addition - totally get when you say that's a separate decision you've made for yourself. We made the decision that if for some reason I needed a c-section, with our last I'd get a tubal, but otherwise it's his turn after I've given birth twice, had a D&C, and a medicated natural m/c. :)
