He told you not to nurse, but didn't tell you how long... just use up your stash. So basically, he doesn't know how the steroid effects breastmilk, and also doesn't appreciate how difficult it is to build a stash. I was given the go-ahead from the pediatrician to nurse as usual with the understanding that it would probably mess up baby's stomach a bit. I feel terrible to have had to get this shot. I got a really low dose, according to doctor. He said, for example, he wanted to give me 10, but gave me 2. I don't want to pump and dump too much if I don't have to. I also drink wine and margaritas on occasion and never pump and dump... yikes. </p> <p>@kiddosc: So... my doctor originally wouldn't give me the steroid shot because of nursing. But I sort of "need" it at this point. He told me to "go ahead and use up my freezer stash." Umm... I never feel better about dipping into my freezer stash. But I suppose this is the sort of thing I have the stash for. An emergency. (also, date nights I"m hoping to get someday in a blue moon) He also said the med peaks at 12 hours. Did the doctor who gave you the shot tell you to pump and dump? I have taken steroids while nursing and would wait to take my meds until right after baby went to bed. I usually had a 4-5 hour window before nursing again. The doctor gave me a very low dose steroid shot. (I've spent weeks trying other remedies before getting to this.) I'm currently trying to figure out how long I will need to pump and dump and if I have enough frozen stash to cover this time. </p> <p>Please let me know if you have dealt with this situation and what you did about it. </p>
