We did steroids and some nebulizer treatments at home, and it worked great. I found that if I can catch the croup cough and help him kick it quickly, that's the best. When I would wait for it to clear up on it its own, the cough would subside but then come back right away any time LO caught a cold, had congestion, etc. The steroids helped to fully clear up the cough.

@Mrs. Oatmeal: We had to put it in a syringe and squirt it into the back of her mouth then quickly hand her her sippy cup of milk!

@lawbee11: that's another thing I'm worried about! It's NOT a concentrated dose, so she has to drink a LOT of it. Maybe we'll chase it with ice cream or something ;)

The steroids make a world of difference. I think with croup night three is usually the worst, so I found it worthwhile to do, depending on how bad the first night was.

Yep, we gave them to LO when she had croup. It was a struggle to get her to take them because they taste bad, but I do think they helped with her breathing. Hope K feels better soon! Croup was really rough for us.

We had K at the doctor today after an awful night last night, and she has croup. The doctor prescribed a dose of steroids for her, but said it was up to us if we wanted to give them to her. I hate to just give medication if it could clear up on its own, but at the same time, I don't want her to suffer longer than necessary. I'm leaning towards giving them to her, but- what is your experience? Have you given steroids for croup?
