@LovelyPlum: lol thanks :p

@tlcbaby: My only advice would be follow your gut, I didn't and should have, if you still think something's not right, see if you can get an u/s or xray to ensure it is where it should be :)

I was uncomfortable for a few weeks this time. The last one I got, years ago and before children, was intensely painful for a few days but then totally fine, no pain at all. So I guess it varies from person to person and even from insertion to insertion. But yes if you're worried at all, call! Can't hurt.

I was really uncomfortable with my Paragard for what seemed like forever. Aching, stabby pains, and I could feel it all the time. I don't quite remember when it stopped, but after having it for 4 months now I forget it's there :)

Thank you all! Quick update - I called my midwife and they told me that if you have a tilted uterus (not sure if I do or not) that you can sometimes feel it for a longer time before your body gets accustomed to it. They told me what I was feeling was definitely within the range of normal, but to let them know if it doesn't continue to improve.

I have to go back in a month so they can check it anyway so I will just keep an eye on things in the meantime. I appreciate your responses, I definitely feel better!

I have a Mirena, and I haven't had a baby.

When I got my first one placed I had really nasty cramps off and on for about a week. Then I had another 3 or 4 weeks of just a persistent feeling of pressure/something being in there. I continued having the sensation of awareness that something was there whenever I had a really full bladder for most of the first year I had it. Unrelated ultrasound about a year into having it showed the Mirena in the right place.

It did gradually go away and I was happy enough with my IUD to get a second one when my first expired.

Sorry you're in pain! I had my Paragard put in about 5 weeks ago and I think I stopped cramping by about a week or less. I didn't really have pain but I think there was some discomfort. It was all low level stuff for me.

At my appointment, my MW did say that she had one inserted herself a few months earlier and she was very uncomfortable for a while - like I want to say 6 weeks or more - and she said that is within the range of normal for IUD side effects. She has not been pregnant. ETA: She kept the IUD and is now really happy with it.

I would call and see what they say for sure. For me I wouldn't be too concerned given it hasn't yet been a week, but I always like to keep my docs in the loop.

I hope you get it sorted out. So far I'm very happy with mine.

@Happygal: Thanks. my old midwife suggested against it too so I rated until after I had a baby to get one. I am going to be so upset if it still won't work for me-I don't want to go back on hormonal birth control. :(

Ditto what @LovelyPlum: said. I have Mirena and didn't have cramping but I did have nausea like a week later for a couple days.

@TLCBaby: I have not experienced this, but I will pass on the discussion I had with my midwife about getting one. She said since I haven't had a baby yet and I was a smaller person to begin with, she thought it would be uncomfortable for me. She said she removes many of the IUDs she ends up putting in.

Hope the pain gets better for you!

I had the ParaGard inserted last Wednesday. All day Wednesday and Thursday I had intense cramping and also sharp pains that I can feel when I strain at all or move certain ways (walking, jumping). The feelings are less intense, but I can still feel it almost constantly. As I sit here right now I can feel a dull pain inside - like I am just always aware of it. I haven't had any bleeding since the first day, though.

I am sure I know the answer to this question is to call my midwife and have them look at it, but I wanted to know if anyone else experienced something similar and what the outcome was?
