I always get 1-2 of the giant Toblerone bars for Dh's stocking, since that is his favorite chocolate. Then I just throw some totally random things in there, too, like fuzzy socks to wear around the house or new bath soap. Last year I got him some light up gear for his bike. All little stuff.

@Bluemasonjar: I love that you said orange! I was actually talking about this thread with my mom as we were reminiscing about what was in our stockings growing up. We always had an orange (though she said it was a tangerine), an apple, a banana, some nuts that you need a nutcracker to open, a few pieces of candy and a really small toy. She even used to send me my full stocking to me when I was in college and I was thrilled b/c she included two rolls of quarters for laundry money! :)

This thread has been so helpful! I haven't been responding, but I've been checking and I think I'm done with DH. I went with (in case it helps anyone else):
coffee from Hawaii
t-shirts from True Classic
scratch tickets
jerkey
Dr. Squatch soap
Badger balm

It also helped me figure out my main gift. It's possible some of the "stocking" stuff will actually end up wrapped, and possibly "from" the kids, but we will see (our stockings are actually fairly small.)

We don't usually do gifts--we pretty much only do stockings (though I did have a couple small things last year), so we try to make them thoughtful.

Last year, I got DH some fancy olive oil from our local farmer's market so he could dip bread in it. I have also gotten him book marks decorated with some of his favorite things, pens (tradition from my childhood), altoids, favorite candy, GC to local eateries, and nice socks. I have no good ideas for this year, so I'll be following this thread!

I've noticed over the years on here that there is a lot of variation in how people treat stockings. At our house we include an orange and a few small gifts but they are definitely not "full." My mother in law also has stockings for everyone with candy, small toiletry items, socks etc.

So far I have new pop its, bath confetti and bath paints for the boys. This thread is helping with ideas for DH so thank you!

This is an interesting thread! Stockings in my house are mostly just for decoration. We put maybe 1 to 2 small gifts in them. Last year I got DH a pair of bombas socks and that was the only thing in his stocking. We usually wrap most gifts and put them under the tree.

My parents have always been big into completely filling stockings though and they still do that. They give us things like toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, hand sanitizer, candy, etc. in our stockings.

My in-laws just put a few scratch offs for everyone in their stockings.

My Mom still fills all the stockings... She scaled way back though from when we were younger. Usually DH gets candy, lip balm or deodorant, and a coffee shop gift card. Sometimes some warm socks too.

We started doing stockings only and one family gift a few years ago, as a fun challenge and because the kids were getting drowned in gifts from the inlaws. Often DH gets a bag with the goodies that don't fit in his stocking, mostly food. This year I am doing:
Bombas socks
Beef jerky
Cheese
Crackers.

His birthday is in November and I had a sentimental canvas from his grandfather professionally framed for his birthday, so that's his big gift for the whole year. But my other idea was a neoprene mat for his favorite board game.

@karenbme: My mom made stockings for all of her grandkids too but she cross-stitched them and therefore used a pattern. She feels super bad about not checking the dimensions on the one she made DS2 bc it's adorable but it can't fit much. DH and I got stockings as a wedding present that are a decent size and we still have the ones from our childhood so we ended up basically giving the ones from our wedding to our boys to fill. Either way, we still go pretty small. However I also grew up with the tradition of St Nicholas day and DH didn't so we do both. I fill the stockings on Dec 6th and DH is in charge of filling them for Christmas.

@Mommy Finger: So this is a legit issue in our house! My MIL knits everyone these giant stockings. They are seriously between 2 and 3 feet long and wide enough that the coffee mug I got DH will fit in its box with room to spare. I don’t want to not use them because MIL made them and they’re cute and have our names on but they are HARD to fill.

How big are y'alls stockings??? We just put in some candy and then maybe the kids get a tiny something extra.

In all serious, I love seeing how different people do things but about 95% of what people have listed above would get wrapped and put under the tree in our house.

I haven't actually purchased anything but I always fill in some gaps on his tools/things that wear out....
headlamp
measuring tape
work gloves
Other options...
wool socks
chocolate covered almonds
gift cards to local favorites
new book from a series he likes
pens (DH thinks we have a shortage of pens because he constantly leaves them all over the house)

I always have the hardest time figuring out what to get for DH.
So far this year I'm getting him:
Kona coffee beans from Hawaii
Cozy socks
lip balm
Random chocolates

Adult stocking stuffers are so hard! For DH I have:
Cozy wool socks
A jar of blackberry lime curd
A Fellow carter mug
A UV touch screen cleaner wand

And that’s all at this point, but I’m trying to shop locally so I’m sure I’ll see more in time. I’d like to add some kind of puzzle and we always do oranges (because it’s traditional on my side, but don’t ask me why) and chocolate.

So far for DH's stocking this year I have:
chocolate covered espresso beans and andes mints
jerky in fun flavors
hot sauce
scratch tickets
welly bandages
$10 starbucks gift card
winter hat
key chain that is supposed to make keys more compact
fleece lined thermals

Last year his stocking had:
a dragon zipper pull
floss
hot sauce
magnetic bottle opener
nose hair trimmer
chocolate covered espresso beans
portable phone charger

This year I know he is hoping for a new coffee maker, ps5 headset, and a fleece jacket. I will probably get two of them and my mom will get the third. DD always picks out fun socks for him.

I really dropped the ball on Christmas for DH last year. We usually go very small on holidays, preferring to save money and use it on a house project or vacation, so I don't need "big ticket" items, but I am looking for thoughtful or useful. And I'm crowd-sourcing so I don't just buy a bunch of crap. (I blame the pandemic for my fail last year, but probably need to get my act together now.)

His interests:
Wine
Fly fishing
Coffee (a little--he doesn't like flavored coffees, though)
Reading
Video games
Surfing (but since we live in a landlocked state, he doesn't get to often. But we are traveling to Costa Rica next year)

I would love ideas especially for stocking stuffers, but I don't really have gift ideas either. Please help me not fail him at Christmas again ;)
