The only luggage I've had stolen was from when I stuck it in an overhead compartment on a longhaul bus ride in Bolivia. I should have known better. Luckily, though, it was just a day pack with my raincoat, camera charger, travel guide, water bottle, etc. All of my documents, camera, etc were in my purse which was in my lap. The part that made me mad at the time (but laugh now) is that I'm 99% sure the people that stole it were gringo backpackers, since they were seated behind us at the beginning and somehow magically disappeared later in the journey! I guess they really needed a Lonely Planet guidebook, haha!

The only other time I've had issues with my luggage when they gate checked a bag of mine and put the wrong airport code. I was going to a wedding, so I didn't have any of my nice clothes with me. Luckily, I was staying with family so I borrowed things from my cousin. They FINALLY found my bag TWO WEEKS after I got home. I got a call from the airport in Des Moines, Iowa, saying that my bag had been there for a few days and was I ever going to pick it up? How it got to Des Moines, I have no idea. I'm just glad it was found!

I had my luggage stolen. It was only a 45 minute plane ride but when we got there my luggage was gone and it never came back. We were on the way to a wedding.... luckily my dress was in my mom's suitcase but I didn't have any shoes. I had to wear my sister's shoes and she's 2 sizes bigger then me.

I haven't but my grandparent's were in Paris and had the taxi driver leave without unloading their luggage (clearly on purpose) and it became a big joke that the cab driver was just worried they couldn't carry that much up the stairs in their old age. They lost everything except their ID's/$$ (thank goodness!).

Have you ever had your luggage stolen or lost before? I did a study abroad for 7 weeks once and had my suitcase stolen. Ever since then I'm pretty paranoid and rarely ever have checked luggage. Now with baby we can't survive with carry on only. But I'm still going to pack as much important things with us carry on as possible. And not too many valuable things at all.
