@MarieJ: Go home! I think you've shown your boss that you are more than professional by showing up at work today and being there this long. We've all been where you are and know how miserable you are feeling, so I give you major props for making it this far...I would've stayed home :)

She is LESS likely to get it if you breastfeed. I've done this twice now, and my baby got a very weakened version the first time, and nothing the second time. Sucks so much for you, though, so sorry!

@mossyslane: thank you! I'm going to pick some up on the way home.

Do you all think it's completely unprofessional to leave for the rest of the day sick? My boss has told me I can, but I don't want to look lazy or have the other workers think I'm getting special treatment. I really feel awful!

@MarieJ: I wasn't able to keep down anything for the first 12 hours, and then slowly was able to drink gatorade, gingerale and water. My supply is still a bit down (I'm still pumping less when at work) but it is making a comeback. Also, took Immodium which is safe for breastfeeding and helpful.

@Char_Em: I'm trying to keep hydrated, but everything is upsetting my tummy even more. Even sprite. I've also notice I haven't pumped as much today. Pity party for 1 :(

@mossyslane: I'm so sorry you & your husband experienced this too! I wouldn't wish it on anyone. My supply has definitely taken a hit. I'm not pumping anywhere near as much as I usually do. Fluids are upsetting my tummy more & all of my coworkers think I'm pregnant again because I keep running to the bathroom to throw up. I hope this passes quickly ;(

I was JUST in your boat this past weekend (both me and my husband were down w/an awful bug, possibly food poisoning) and it was awful. The good thing about this kind of stuff, though, is that it is generally very quick and you'll likely feel so much better in 48 hours. As everyone is saying, definitely nurse as much as you can. Because you'll be losing so much fluid, your supply will likely take a hit, too. The first 12 hours of a stomach bug are generally the worst, and I had a hard time keeping anything down, and so I had hardly any milk. Try your best to press on, nurse frequently, and take in fluids as you're able to. In terms of not having your baby catch it, I used real bleach to clean the bathroom frequently and then didn't have her go in there at all--I gave her her baths in the kitchen so that she would avoid any of the germs in there.

Best wishes--you'll be back on your feet soon.

Yup keep breastfeeding so she gets your antibodies to the virus! My doc told me pepto bismol is fine while breastfeeding. However, he said that the virus just needs to get out of your system so taking pepto to stop the vomitting and diarrhea will actually just extend the illness. So if you can just stay home and let it pass that's the best option.

I heard it's better to keep breastfeeding/pumping because you pass antibodies to LO, but I don't have personal experience with that!

Hope you guys feel better soon!

Definitely keep breastfeeding. The milk is great for your baby and helps her stay healthy even if you are sick. Keep pumping that milk and feeding it to her, she will not get what you have from your milk. I'm SO sorry you are sick. I went through this and it was horrible (feeding the baby was so tough when I kept having to run to the bathroom!) I hope you get over it soon.

Are you on the Breastfeeding Moms of (Insert our city here) page on Facebook? If not I can message you my info on WB and get you added. A mama who is a good friend of mine just asked this question about a week ago on there. They told her to keep breastfeeding like usual, and keep pumping like usual, but to limit her contact otherwise. They said it would actually help keep him from catching the bug!

Let me caution you before reading that this post will more than likely be filled with TMI.

So, I'm pretty sure DH & I have a stomach virus. We both woke up this morning with aches, chills, diarrhea, and We've each thrown up a few times. Can I not breastfeed my baby or is she more likely to catch it if I do? I'm also pumping at work, so do I need to pump and dump. I can not afford her catching whatever it is that we have. I would feel awful Knowing I'm the cause of her getting sick for the first time. Any advice?
Any medicines I an take to clear it up quicker that are safe while breastfeeding?

This is my first official week back at work and I'm pretty sure I caught it there and gave it to DH :(
