OMG, I'm so scared of this! Xander hasn't cut any teeth yet, but they're coming and he'll often pull off my boob without breaking suction - I can't imagine how much more painful it will be with teeth involved!!!

@littlebug: I hope he stops biting you soon!! I totally get wanting to continue breastfeeding, but the pain, yikes!!! Good luck!

@MamaMoose: Yeah, I did that this morning - watched for his jaw getting more tense, and just pulled him off, gave him my finger to gnaw on a bit, then put him back on. So I think I avoided a bite there.

@Kemma: I'll try pinching his nose. Unfortunately, I am usually pressed for time in the morning (which is when it happens most often), so I don't really have time to put him down and walk away for a bit. But at least getting him off the chomp with the nose pinch could help! Thanks!

My LO goes through this every time she cuts a tooth. Try to be REALLY conscious of the tension in your LO's jaw. If I pay attention I can almost always tell when she's about to bite and pop her off.

I'm subscribing. LO has bottom 2 AND top 2 as of today. I am terrified. He's only bitten me once, but it was light, and my squeak scared him enough for him to stop.

@Kemma: pinching the nose sounds like a good idea!

Miss A goes through a biting phase every now and then, it sux!

I gently pinch her little nose to get her to let go and she then goes in her cot for five minutes while I go elsewhere. I also feed her less frequently so that she's definitely hungry and more likely to get latched and drinking rather than playing. The biting usually passes after a day or two and from what I've read, babies do grow out of it!

She was doing the bite down pull off thing too! She was really shredding me. I started to figure out when she would be about to do it and pop her off before.

Since she bites and pulls off, pushing into me didn't work. If she bit me I'd take her off and tell her no biting with my sternest face. She's such a troubl-ish thing she started biting me, popping off then looking at me and shaking her head. What a baby!

If it helps, she did stop doing it as much. But it hurt as bad as the early days of breast feeding. Ugh!

Hope he gets over this phase quickly.

My son started biting after his teeth came in too. It's not every session, though :(. I notice its when he's not as hungry & is feeling more "playful". Each time I've been lucky enough to retain my composure and say his name or something else to get my finger in and pop him off. I say "I won't let you bite me." and stop nursing him for at least 5-10 minutes. If he seems like he's still hungry I'll nurse on the other side.

He just bit me yesterday though, so I don't know how effective that approach is :/

I know there have been a few board posts about this, and I've reviewed them all, but thought maybe there'd be new suggestions out there now, ha ha. D's 2 bottom teeth broke through a couple of weeks ago, and ever since (yes, AFTER the teeth broke through), he's started biting me while nursing. The past few days, it's been nearly every nursing session. Yesterday, he bit down and then pulled off, leaving me with a laceration on my nipple - YEOW! I tried pushing him into my boob, but I think that scares him and he just bites harder. I am afraid to pull him off because he sort of clamps down. And I tried sticking my finger in his mouth to break the latch but then he just chomps on my finger....with my nipple still in his mouth!

I am starting to dread nursing, and it was always my favorite time of the day! Hubs suggested maybe I need to stop nursing and just EP and bottle feed, and I started to cry! I am really not ready to give up breastfeeding, and I know that D isn't, either. How do I get him to stop biting me??? HELP!!!
